Bye Week, looking ahead to next off-season (players)

Since we are now on our bye week, good time to discuss next off-season, based on what we have seen this far through 6 games:

-Randy Gregory is the priority to resign. He is the only legitimate edge rusher we have.
-Dalton Shultz has turned Blake Jarwin into a full time reserve.
-3 Safeties playing on the 1 yr contract. Kearse is the biggest standout and should be the player we resign. Would love to keep one of Hooker/Kazee as well.
-LVE/Neal have both been healthy, but there play has just been average. 1 veteran will return.
-Connor Williams-up and down play, but still is better then average at the position.
-Gallup-with the play of Wilson, it's looking more likely Gallup plays elsewhere next season

Wilson is a FA too. So is Noah Brown

Wilson himself is up for a contract as well.

Brown also.

We could probably keep all three for what Cooper is making.

Tough call there, but it's clear Lamb is a capable #1.

My question is how many want to win and how many want to get paid? Seems the culture in Dallas has shifted a bit and they are winning again. Could any of them sign for less with the chance to win a super bowl? Seems thats the formula in Tampa. Yea you aren't gonna get huge dollars but you'll be in the big game at the end. There are some garbage contracts still on the books, but it is what it is. Seems with some creative cap wrangling and some flexibility with players you could do a few things. Take less and stay in Dallas or break the bank and play in Detroit ...

Spoken like a fan. Jarwin is still scoring TDs. Do you want Shultz to be the only TE on the team? I think we have room for both. We like our guys so I bet we re-sign a good amount of those guys on one-year deals.
 
Gregory has come into his own this year. You can see it in the interviews and on the field. I think he is a priority to sign as well. If any player might feel some loyalty to Jones, it could be Gregory. He's going to get his "bag" as they say, either way.

Jarwin is the one guy I might try and trade. That said, you'd need to add another TE in the draft in the mid rounds, IMO. Schultz has really become reliable.

Safety...next year, despite adequate play from these guys, I wouldn't mind us trying to find one in the earlier rounds.

LB...I'm not sure LVE cashes in to the extent that we couldn't keep him. He's OK. But, you need another LB no matter what.

I think Williams leaves and you get a 3rd or 4th round comp pick for him. If it's me, I'm picking up an OL or DL very early in the draft. I wouldn't mind seeing a first and a second spent on these positions. I'd also see if I couldn't lock up Steele long term.

I love Gallup, but I think someone is really going to pay up for him. I'd love for him to stay, but I really don't think he will. He's been injured, so who knows. I hope for his sake, and ours, that he balls out and earns the big pay day. Nothing but love for Gallup. I'm not getting rid of Coop unless he falls off a cliff this year. We are a different team when he is on the field. Lamb is awesome, but I don't see him making the entire offense click like Coop does. At least not yet.

Ask me after the Superbowl...depends on which one of our guys is the MVP in that game.
 
I understand the discussion. But I will wait until the off-season to look at it in more depth.

I like all the feedback though. Nice to see what others are thinking at this point. A lot in play for what can happen and what transpires. Of course what will be the cap limit. I believe they already said the highest would be around $203 million.

No player is really standing out to say...that guy needs to be kept other than Gregory and Schultz. Possibly Wilson, but you have options there also. Same for the Safeties. LB's, I feel they still draft more.

La'el has a 10M salary for 2022...
- Steele has been very good at RT but was terrible at LT in the preseason.

If not for agents, a guy like Gregory might sign at a discount due to the team maintaining faith in him.
- However, agents rarely ever let that happen.

Very difficult decision as Cooper remains productive, despite his lingering injuries each yr.

They reportedly like McKeon as well, they aren't going to be able to keep both Jarwin/Shultz.

Gregory has to be the priority as plays a high valued position. Could cost less, but remember all the salary lost, looking for a big payday.

As I said on another response, Gregory lost a lot of money due to his suspensions, he is going to look for a big payday.
 
Jarwin will be cut this offseason for sure. Two other possibilities are Amari and La’el. If Gallup has decent production upon his return, it could convince the team that Amari and his huge contract are expendable.

I can’t see the team re-signing Connor Williams unless he shows marked improvement the rest of the year. He looks overmatched regularly. I’d consider moving Collins back to guard.

Could be in Wilson's best interest to do a one year deal. One year as a full time #3 WR in Dallas could give him a solid multi year market as a FA. After 2021, his market will be small. He is on a pace right now for about 40 catches, and he wont get that with Gallup coming back. His offers this off season wont be great. If we can come back in 2022 and get 50 catches, his market will be alot better.
 
For all you Randy Gregory is a must sign people you must understand that what you are seeing now you will never see again. Consider his entire career not just the handful of games that will make him rich for life. This is a mistake we keep making over and over and this one is painfully obvious IMHO.

It's possible, but if his price grows higher, might become out of our price range. Could always draft his replacement.
