Candidates in no particular order:
1. LVE
2. Conner Williams
3. D. Lawrence.

To be fair, Jaylon earned that spot before he was dumped. Even Green Bay dumped him so it's obvious.

D Lawrence is overpaid for what he does, but that's Jerry's fault. He's a good player but not good enough for what he earns. What's D-Law's fault is the surgery thing. A lot of people dislike him for that.
Conner Williams is struggling and who knows whether it's some issue or lack of effort to get better. We'll see.
LVE is a little tone def, but the real criticism is that he just isn't healthy enough for the position. It's not his fault, it just is what it is.

Conner Williams is probably closest to Jaylon as far as being a detriment to the position and the team, but is still no comparison.

Connor Williams is just bad at football. Thankfully, there's no way they bring him back after this season.

Well if Dak Attack is still around.....

True. There’s another one that for some totally unfounded reason thinks that they ‘know stuff’.

All evidence to the contrary.

I don't dislike D Law. I don't think he was worth the contract they gave him

Some fans consider valid criticism as hate. They think it’s a requirement of fandom that you have to like everyone and everything Cowboys related or you’re a hater. They’re not smart enough to see anything else.

Jaylon was just in a different category....high paid, poor production, and still talked trash acting like he was an elite player.

LVE takes his spot in my book, but at least LVE is likable. Jaylon got hard to root for at times to be honest.

I most definitely won't miss Jaylon Smith slinging ball carriers forward for 5 additional yards. So now, Connor Williams stands out to me as the player that fails more than the LVE and Lawrence. Hell Lawrence isn't even available to hate on.

Connor Williams. He’s so lucky we have an elite offense, lucky everytime he commits a hold we have a couple big plays after lol

The first two for sure, and I even catch myself complaining about them more than anyone else. Lawrence is still a high end player when on the field, I think the negativity around him will go away once he's back(unless it's just complaining about his contract). Biadasz and A.Brown were slipping into this territory early in the year, unfairly I think, but the disgust for them has settled down a bit.

Why do we even need a whipping boy? This is a very good team so why would we want to whip one of its players? If we were not so good I can see taking out some of that frustration on a designated whipping boy, but that's not the case. Please tell me there are others that agree with me.

The dictionary defines - "Whipping Boy" as: a person who is blamed or punished for the faults or incompetence of others.

So based on that definition, I would have to say none of them. None of them are being blamed or punished for the faults or incompetence of others. They are being blamed for their own faults.
Some around here don't like to hold their own players accountable, especially if it's a big name overpaid one.

Vander Esch even though he’s still actually good.

Anthony Brown haters are currently sitting quiet with their mouths shut.

Lawrence due to contract and lack of production. ‘Almost Anthony’ Part Deux. Victor Butler Deja Vu All Over Again.

Fans might go off on Bossman Fat if he doesn’t produce near Diggs’ level. Bossman Fat will be under the microscope. I think he will play well but CBs can easily get a bed rep even when it isn’t their fault. People still whoop on Anthony Brown for the Antonio Brown TD even though it wasn’t his fault.

Great post.

I sit back and laugh at fans somehow crying about other fans making someone their ‘whipping boy’ and specifically mentioning Jaylon Smith.

The same Jaylon Smith that’s now been released by two teams and has no interest from the entire league.

As it turns out, those ‘mean fans’ and their ‘whips’ were 100% correct.

The truth hurts sometimes.
