  • Who do you target for re-signing?
  • Who do you cut to get under cap?
  • What positions do you rely on the draft or free agency?
I would try to re-structure Tank, Zeke and Coop with potential cuts for all three depending on how much room is needed and what the draft or FA holds. Other cap hit targets - Collins (replace with Steele), Zuerlein (replace with free agency), Jarwin (replace with free agency, draft).
Top free agents for me would be Gregory, Kearse, Schultz, and Gallup. Lower contracts would love to retain if possible - Armstrong, Neal, Anger and McQuaide. C.Williams is a goner if they're already benching him for McGovern.
OT and EDGE are looking nice in the draft for a first rounder.

Can't we just enjoy this season?

This is honestly the most forward-thinking team I've ever watched. Don't feel like this is the Jones Boys as much as it is McCarthy because I don't remember these moves in the Garrett days. I feel like the C. Williams benching was just as much about contract as it was accountability for penalties. Jaylon as a high-paid starter being cut mid-year and the reason given was the bonus next year.

The emergence of Parsons as a pass rusher is big factor. He doesn’t have to be a full time edge player, but he has to be your primary pass rusher because he’s the best one you have. I’d probably release Tank and use his savings to try and resign Gregory. Restructure Dak’s deal and release Brown and Jarwin and you probably get enough money to sign Schultz and Kearse.

Tyron has missed 29 games in about 10 1/2 seasons, Terron Armstead who you mention as a possible FA replacement has missed around 48 in 9 1/2 seasons. Upgrade lol!!! That said, they chose to restructure Tyron this year…. Don’t see him going anywhere. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if they trade Collins this off-season!

I look at Tyron as more of an unexpected retirement loss than a cut. It's so hard to find a franchise LT, I think the Cowboys will ride it out until they know for sure they have their replacement. But with all the constant damage, I could easily see Tyron saying "#*$# it, I've had enough!" A few guys here wanted a LT last year. Glad we got Parsons, but yeah, I think it's time now to start looking for one. That and an EDGE will be easy to find in the first round this year, and they are both just as important.

How much is the cap going up?

Good point. Should have included that too. Going up $30 million. More help, but unfortunately with such a boost, also means bidding will be high on our free agents. Most teams already have cap space before even receiving the $30 million.

He did the neck surgery last year to extend his career. Don’t see him retiring now because of a bone spur. Again, considering they chose to restructure him instead of Lawrence and Cooper this off-season, I don’t see them expecting to make any significant move at that position anytime soon!

Never too early to start signing my friend. Especially if you want to avoid a bidding war with teams being rewarded $30m in new cap space next year.

Great post....as for the top free agents list we can disregard because we all know the Cowboys will be shopping in the back alleys for their free agents looking for bargains and freebies. We don't know who those will be so no idea who they go for. I'm sure Stevie will be waiting to see what is being thrown out. Keeping Gregory, Kearse and Schultz would be my priority. Gallup too overpriced.
