Who have we paid big bucks and not underperformed?

Dear Zoners----its been on my mind for sometime...who have we finally bowed to and paid big buck

salary and they have not underperformed?...as soon as we pay Dlaw no where near 10 sacks again

we pay Jaylon and cut him....we make Zeke highest paid RB in league and gone downhill every year

since....Martin LG good money...Smith LT good money....Coop...is real good but he is consistently worth

20 mil a year good..usually injuried somehow?....apologize if i went negative but maybe i need to be

set straight

what you say zoners?

Damn man this is like a Rorschach test as I am struggling to come up with an answer to your question as a result of so many recent failed contracts.

A better question might be - has any player who's received a big bucks long term contract from Jerry in the past 20 years ever earned every cent of it? I cant think of any.
I would say Tyron Smith falls into that category. Yes, he has missed some games the last two or three years, but given the going rate for top-flite OT's, he's overall been worth every penny, IMO.

I've stated this in the past but what happens in the NFL unfortunately is that guys get beat up throughout their rookie contract. By the time they get a deal their body has gone through so much and they are no longer in their early 20's anymore they are closer to their late 20's. If you are lucky the guy is still in his prime but in most cases a guys prime is during that rookie contract.

The only position that probably consistently give you your value back are offensive linemen and quarterbacks. MAYBE receivers. But lately that doesn't seem to be the case.

How can you leave out the 3rd highest paid NFL player ever when talking about underperforming after getting paid big bucks?

Yes

The guy who quietly does a great job. We only hear about him when he's not there!

Zack Martin has been worth every penny he's ever been paid. I can't say that about any other Cowboy player that has received a second contract. The others have just not been reliable enough for the money. He's hands down the best player on the team.

Joe---total agreement on Martin and Smith RT ( except for constant injuries every season now with Smith )

Jerry not only overpaid underperformers, he let great players walk.

The overpaying begun as soon as free agency begun. When it came to the players, Jerry didn't make business decisions, he made emotional decisions.

Dez never got another thousand yard season after he signed his new contract. Jerry thought that, by paying Barber like a starter, that would automatically make Barber play like a starter. Jerry pays a few big stars 50% of the cash and it implodes on him, he has done this time and again.

There is no strategy.

takes little strategy to be consistent middling team....even Pats losing Brady...bad one year and now # 1 seed in AFC.....strategy is big in NE

When personnel decision makers pay the wrong guys they eventually get fired for their mistakes. They don't in Dallas. That is exclusive to the Cowboys.

Jake--- now my blood is boiling...its like we have the dummy curse....probably will lie down for a while

maybe strategy until they change owner/players meeting is to keep churning through the draft and only pay QB and stalwarts like Martin......Jerry's pie in the sky stuff like Zeke is healing and will be a monster again

is beyond sad......its like the best we can do is win NFC Least and maybe a wild card game on our top years....Jerry dont care cause Cowboys i just saw worth north of 8 billion...Jerry dont need to win to cash in

which makes me wonder if Stephen A Smith is right about us cowboy fans....and that makes my blood boil.....we gotta always put Stephen A Smith in his place but we dont...sorry for negative ramblin

man that truth totally makes me see red.....they dont need cowboys to win to cash in big time....they cant get out of their own way ever...i heard the cowboy fan suicide rate is 150% higher than national average?

man i got to get off this negative mindset....but i am looking at this picture in front of me...i got no shot

The best decision is probably to not resign anyone unless it's just absolutely obvious that it's someone that you should. If you're kind of going back and forth, then no. Unfortunately with QB's that goes out the window, and if you have a decent one you have to pay them.

What great players have we let walk?

Demarco Murray? Never the same after we ran him into the ground in '14
Ware? Injured and thought he was done. Was second fiddle to Miller on those Denver teams
