100%…. I feel bad for the guy if he can no longer function as a LBer. Sorry. But now that we know you can’t (or won’t) do the job— go sit on the bench and let’s get someone out there who can actually function in the role.

We are basically playing 10 vs 11 with LVE out there
It’s up to the coaching staff to make those decisions.

On today's Talking Cowboys the subject came up of who has been underperforming and who really needs to step up. Leighton Vander Esch was the unanimous choice. It was pointed out how he is constantly going backwards to try to make plays instead of attacking. They said this is why the Cowboys didnt pick up his 5th year option and how he has declined since his rookie year. If the Cowboys are going to make a run for the playoffs, Vander Esch needs to step up, or be replaced. I'm glad to see him being called out publicly. He is either afraid to get hurt or trying to save himself for his next team.
It's not his fault. That how Jaylon taught him to LB!

LVE just sucks. Too slow, too dumb, not athletic enough.

If LVE hasn't stepped up it's because he can't.

Recently, Jerry has consistently and deliberately deceived the media and fans when it comes to the health of Cowboy players.

The hesitance and lack of speed that you have witnessed from some Cowboys players are related to injuries that they may have "recovered" from but still impacted their physical abilities. In these cases, the player performs well, goes under the knife, and are never the same.

It's almost as if Jerry is saying that he's paying players too much for injuries to have an impact, get out there!

I think it also speaks to the coach's lack of authority. The coaches have got to notice the same thing we do. Apparently, their hands are tied until they can convince Jerry to make the right choice.

The Cowboys have a very sick management structure that threatens the success of every season.

As for LVE, it's another sad story. he wants to play so very badly, like all NFL players, that he is probably complicit in admitting to the impact of his injury and the degree to which the surgery would still allow him to play at a high level.

It's quite possible that he is going against medical advice and that the wrong hit on him could drastically affect him physically.

In any case, despite contracts, expectation, and team needs, the Cowboys should be putting the best option on the field and they are not doing that..

Personally I think Micah’s presence really shook that linebacker room up when he showed up. Jaylon was the first to be exiled and now 55 isn’t living up to new expectations. I can’t wait until he becomes the full fledged leader.

I guess their confidence in Gifford and Bernard are quite low for defensive snaps.

My question to everyone in this forum.

It's seems to be agreed that LVE is a shell of himself, and may not be a NFL caliber player anymore.

If this is true and he goes the way of Jaylon Smith who no longer has a job in the NFL, how bad is Gifford and Bernard that they could not overtake these two seriously flawed LBs?

How bad is our LB unit?

Impossible to know if we don’t see them on the field.

Another question:

How bad is the evaluation process when LVE is kept out there?

It seems like he could be worse than Jaylon was, but maybe that’s recency bias. The int attempt last week was the worst catching attempt I’ve seen since my wife at the beach last year.

You haven’t been paying attention…

I've concentrated on watching him in several games this year. He is playing poorly for sure. He's out of position and has developed many of Jaylon's traits. Nothing like his rookie season.

Some way, some how, he needs to be taken off the field. There has got to someone better than him. Might as well play with 10 guys.

no they don't they did NOT exercise the 5th year option and this was prove it year..most likely gone unless he plays for the vert min and improves.. hes a role player..guys on cheap rookie deal nothing to learn from..

No "most likely gone" no matter what he plays for. He needs to be gone. I believe most college linebackers at the top schools are better than LVE right now. Whenever I focus on watching him I'm amazed, he does absolutely nothing, he might as well be in the stands watching the game. In fact when he does have an impact it's because he got in the way of another defensive player.

I can’t believe the team has done nothing to look at or bring in other options at linebacker. Other than Parsons, none of them are playing well.

I wonder if they'll make a play for Cunningham? Not a perfect fix, but much better than LVE based on his stats

For those who want Cunningham, why would Houston release this player and take a 5.6 million hit this year and a 12.8 million hit on 2022 cap if he is so good?

Those numbers say buyer beware for some reason.

Look the guy is a shell of his former self due to injuries. I see no reason to bash on him further.
