Who have we paid big bucks and not underperformed?

Dear Zoners----its been on my mind for sometime...who have we finally bowed to and paid big buck

salary and they have not underperformed?...as soon as we pay Dlaw no where near 10 sacks again

we pay Jaylon and cut him....we make Zeke highest paid RB in league and gone downhill every year

since....Martin LG good money...Smith LT good money....Coop...is real good but he is consistently worth

20 mil a year good..usually injuried somehow?....apologize if i went negative but maybe i need to be

set straight

There's underperformance and under results. These can be different.

Most of our big contracts don't get their pre-contract numbers. I think the effort is there for the most part, playing hard and seeking to make the splash plays you want to see.

I feel confident saying this is the case for Tank, Dak, and Coop. Martin IMO is a bargain as he has consistently been the #1 or #2 RG in the League. Tyron is very dominating when not hurt.

I my way of thinking you HAVE to separate injuries from performance on the field. You can't plan thus pay someone based on future injuries as we can't predict them. Now for sure Amari has that injury history and a chronic bad foot but the market for him was higher than what we paid for him. And the team is just better offensively when he plays (there's a thread about that on here). Same with Tank.

Essentially the same can be said about Dak. There is no chance to go on a playoff run without him although there are at least 3-4 QB's you'd have a better chance with come playoff time. But when he's on he's our best chance to advance. IMO he's not a good value at $40M/year though (blame Stephen though because he was available at $34-$35Mprior to 2020).

But (huge BUT) . . . all these players are giving great effort, ALL of them. I can't say that Jaylon did. Van der Esch doesn't. Certainly the 2 OL you mentioned play very hard. Zeke was looking very good until the Knee started affecting him and I think, if healthy, he's a benefit to the team, not a bargain but a benefit. His value is less than his salary for sure.

Stop the defense mechanisms for TRomo......never said he wasn't a solid QB. Facts: Got paid, but underperformed in "big" games.......so maybe, just maybe he underperformed. We read that about Zeke all the time, we're reading it about Dak. Simply put, the same criteria applied to TRomo.

The problem is that pay impacts gameplans, which puts coaches at a disadvantage. They would like to feed the playmaker but they got the big money guy crying if he doesn't get all the reps. Or they spend time negotiating a contract knowing they are about to get surgery or play through a lingering issue.

I'm not a Romo apologist. I wasn't much of a fan, but I give credit where credit is due.
I never thought he was a [SB] championship caliber QB, but the fact is he was a solid QB, and got paid accordingly.
I think he was better QB than Prescott.

Jerry not only overpaid underperformers, he let great players walk.

The overpaying begun as soon as free agency begun. When it came to the players, Jerry didn't make business decisions, he made emotional decisions.

Dez never got another thousand yard season after he signed his new contract. Jerry thought that, by paying Barber like a starter, that would automatically make Barber play like a starter. Jerry pays a few big stars 50% of the cash and it implodes on him, he has done this time and again.

There is no strategy.

What great players did we let walk? I do agree with the rest of the post but I don't think we've let any GREAT players walk lol

Tyron was actually one of the best signings Dallas has ever made. Flat-rate and for nearly a decade.

At least, that was the case until they decided to restructure him year-after-year until the point where they have 10% of their cap tied up on a guy who's now guaranteed to miss 4-5 games per season. Now, they probably can't cut him for another year or two because they won't find a replacement with the difference saved unless they get the best OT in one of the next 2 drafts.

Smith might be one of the best extensions they've ever done.

This season will be the 6th time he's made the pro bowl since signing the extension and the worth of the contract was like 10 years for 115 million which is a freaking joke (LTs starting getting 20 million a year 3 years ago and now are approaching 25 million a year).

I wish they had paid Leary. We got worst with Conner Williams and our oline has never been the same.

Yes we might have to pay him a bit more. But that was a gamble that didn't pay off in the long run.

I also wish we had signed Demarco Murray. We would not have drafted Elliott and probably would have stuck with getting Jaylon Ramsey and probably gotten Derrick Henry.

I know all this is hindsight stuff but I still can't believe we signed Elliott to that outrageous contract. I don't know what the Cowboys FO is thinking.

Yes and No.

Majority of the voting is coaches and players and every single one since the extension has been day 1 selection (really the only controversy with pro bowl is very late alternates which clearly this isn't the case).

Not only that he made the All-Pro team for four out of six of those selections and made the NFL top 100 for all six of them, both of which have no fan votes
