It’s Obvious we need more power at LG vs Big Defensive Fronts

Why haven’t we tried La’el at LG? He has the power, and has played the position before. Steele can more than hold his own at RT.

Your thoughts:

I’m not just blaming the O line. Though, I do believe the O line is our biggest weakness. Dak needs to improve also, AND Moore, needs to make some smart scheme adjustments. The receivers, in general, are not getting near the separation they did earlier in the year.

Although I'm in favor of this, it doesn't appear to be a real consideration for the coaches right now for some reason. If they go back to Williams, though, it could mean that they've given up on McGovern being the answer ... and if that's the case, then we could see the switch next year after Williams leaves in FA. However, it's also possible with the problems that Smith has had that he'll retire and we'll move Collins to LT.

Teams just don’t let these guys go and when they do they get paid a ton more than they are worth.

You have to draft linemen but I agree we need some fresh bodies up front.

Age is catching up to this group quick and when they fall off a cliff I’m afraid the rest of the house will crumble quickly.

I don’t think there’s even a possibility Tyron retires. Unless his back/neck problems re-emerge no one retires because of a sprained ankle. I know we are annoyed at him missing games but he has a minor injury. Unless something major happens he’ll be on the roster next year.

Ehhh..McGovern's issues are not power or size. He just whiffs a lot of blocks. Power doesn't matter if you don't touch the guy.
Williams does lack a little power, but he he is very technically sound. If he cuts down on penalties, he is plenty good enough to win with, especially if Martin, Smith, and Collins are healthy and producing.

Need more help at the tackle position . 77 misses games and Steele is ok as a swing tackle with Nsheke on a one yr sign up . Josh Ball seems to be redshirt freshmen yr.

I don't know. He may just get tired of there being health issues for him every year. He probably thought getting the back/neck problem fixed would allow him to play healthy, but it hasn't. The sprain is possibly a high ankle sprain. He's been dealing with bone spurs, etc. At some point, you decide that it's not worth it. Don't know if he's at that point, though, as many players don't hang it up until their bodies completely fall off the cliff. Smith's abilities clearly are not at that point yet.

That was kind of the question in switching to McGovern. As a former left tackle, Williams has very good movement skills. Sliding, mirroring, etc., are not a problem for him. McGovern was supposed to bring more power to the position, but lesser movement skills. Williams is more equipped to handle to quickness of DL and operate in space, but struggles against power, which is why he holds. McGovern is the opposite. Too bad we can't combine them.

Next year doesn’t help us this year!

We have a team that can make a series playoff run THIS year. This is an issue that needs to, at least improve, before the playoffs.

La'el had a huge number of mental mistakes when he played OG.
- He continues to have more mental mistakes than anyone else on the OLine.
- OT is 'easier' mentally. Inside player must coordinate picking up and handing off stunting/blitzing defenders with players on both their right and left.
- OT's generally just need to coordinate with the OG next to them.

In the run game, 2nd level blocking is more about knowing who to block and blocking from the correct angle.
- 2nd level blocking remains a problem for La'el.
- He often fails to block with the correct leverage (i.e. Positioning himself to the outside of a LB on outside runs or to the inside of the LB on inside runs).
- It does not matter how powerful he is when the LB can just move away from him because the LB is closer to the RB than the blocker (i.e. Wrong leverage).

2nd level blocking is where McGovern has been a significant downgrade from Connor Williams.
- CW is not overpowering physically, but other than penalties he was making the least mistakes of any OL other than Martin.

put williams back at guard...mcgovern back at full-back and lets roll.
draft that kid outta A&M to be our OG for next season.

Agree.

I have same thought when people post about how much a player is making.
- That does not matter to this season because the money is already spent.

After watching the Washington game I am not in favor of moving Collins from RT to LG. Steele was horrible against the WFT 4th and 5th DEs.
