I was on the "Play McGovern" bandwagon through the first 6-7 weeks, however long it took for them to make the change. My POV is that while Williams was an OK starter and had done a good job as a starter his 4 year career, his ceiling is where he is now, he is not a strong player and will not be with the team next season anyway. Given McGovern looked good last year in relief of Martin, I thought it was time to TRY to improve the LG position with someone stronger.

Dead. Wrong. McGovern's play was terrible - he didn't understand assignments, angles, anything. It became pretty clear after a few games that he was toast, and after what...3 games, the coaches decided the same. Yesterday, Williams returned to the starting lineup, did not get called for a single penalty and played great. He helped break the run Zeke had for a TD, looked good on pulls and held up in pass protection.

So, not that it was never going to happen, but Williams is as good as gone. His Agent now has the tape and story he needs to get Williams a premier contract in the offseason. A 4 year starter who will be 25 to start the 2022 season as a guard, with some position flex, will get PAID. And we just don't have the cap room to compete.

OL is going to be an issue next season. Good job Williams!

People can hate on Williams but he is a net positive player for this team. Connor Williams would be a fine player on a reasonable deal. I would be on board at 5 million per year max. If he is looking for more than that I would let someone else overpay.

I heard Stephen Jones say that McGovern is a better right guard the other day.

So we know he’ll never see that position.

I’m hoping we draft 32 and around that area is usually where quality interior lineman go. I’d rather draft a guy with power than sign a finesse guy like Connor Williams.

Dallas needs youth on that Oline in a bad way.

Oline and QB are everything.

A premier contract? Connor Williams on his best day is average. He’s weak and he holds constantly. Just because he outplayed McGovern doesn’t mean jack

A four year starter who is never injured and has good tape will get paid given how needy teams are for good OL play. Kinda like when Hitchens got paid by KC a few years back.

Williams was in line for a nice payday before the benching.

If he continues like yesterday, definitely.

Right about McGovern, and amazingly so. He played well in Martin's absence last year.

The reason Williams was benched was because of his penalties, not his performance.

Williams is a good, but not great, guard and if some other team wants to overpay him, then more power to them and good for him.

There will be other options for guard next season if he leaves, but that is a problem to worry about then.

I know we have the best in the game at RG but it may make sense to flip him and McGovern next year if he is truly better at RG.

So you may lose a little with Zach, from best to just ALL Pro at LG, you will gain with McGovern at RG.

Just a thought.

Conner Williams was always getting a big deal lol.......he's linemen who's started for the Cowboys and has shown he can play multiple positions on the line. Don't let this forum fool you into thinking he's a bad player or that other teams don't value that type of guy.

Because you know what? The Cowboys will be in the market hoping they can find a guy like that in the draft or free agency especially if Tyron retires.

Good comp to Williams is probably Erick Flowers....Good player with obvious wholes in his game. Still probably a top 30 G in the NFL. He signed a 3 year/$30MM last year. I kind of expect a similar deal for CW, maybe slightly higher given the expected cap increase.

CW will absolutely get paid. He's not Zach Martin, but I would rank him in the top 30 of NFL Gs. The guy probably starts on most teams right now if he were on another roster.

I seldom jump on the hate of our own players, because most the time you losers are wrong. Lol
A lot are scarred by the previous regime, but so far this year it’s hard to argue with their personnel and usage decisions.

Until they give me a reason to doubt them I trust this staff with these things. I thought starting Steele in place of Collins was a mistake but I was dead wrong. From there on out I leave it to the professionals.

McGovern is a rg only and maybe backup center...when martin was out last year McGovern did a hech of a job replacing him...some guys can switch, some guys can't...l

PFF didn’t record a single pressure against him. Only Dallas lineman to be credited as such

You arent wrong, but he is also the type of player that gets overpaid on the open market.

And the OL FA crop this year is pretty weak
