I look at RBs around the league. I don’t see Zeke doing anything special on the football field. His durability is the most amazing thing about him. The second thing is how much punishment he dishes to tacklers. I would rather a back make someone miss rather than try to run them over though.

And tony benefits by that. It is a tried and true method for tough NFC teams. Or even tough NCAA midwest teams. You keep pounding the rock. And no...I didn't invent the phrase it actually is a real thing by some in the know.

The cowboys real problem is an OC who wants an NCAA Mountain West Conference offense.

Our defense has pulled us through. At some point we must get a smash mouth offense. Or just get lucky with an amazing defense and poor opposition.

A lot of different things can be true at the same time. Zeke declining since his rookie year is one of those things. It gets more and more apparent.

He’s currently 138 away from 1000 and 6th in rushing. Two big games silences a lot of critics.

i don’t think people are being critical - they are being factual in how the NFL is played today. Zeke - while being a very tough runner and becoming a decent outlet choice on passes - never should have gotten that bloated contract. The game has changed when you are talking about running backs….

Rankings are facts
The best is an opinion
Yes, I know. Got anything else? You notice I haven’t disputed he was the rushing leader that year, right? I am saying he wasn’t the best that year despite being the rushing leader.

This’ll be two straight years without 1000. I still believe he’s elite when healthy but I think their not resting him will give justification for cutting him next year. Resting him even one game would’ve helped his knee and he’d easily get 1000 yards. Thoughts?

He is 100% not elite when healthy. Not even close. He wasnt hurt last year and what happened?

7 horrible games in a row has destroyed any hope for him to claim he is a great RB.

6th in rushing is nothing more then a guy that gets lots of carries. He isnt even the best RB on his football team. Pollard now owns that distinction.

The guy was second in the NFL averaging over 5 ypc before he got hurt.. The only difference between him and some other backs is he has been tough enough to keep suiting up instead of taking weeks off. It boils down to which you would rather have.. a guy who is spectacular for 10-12 games a year but misses 4-6 or a guy who is a steadying presence who sacrifices his own stats and his body for the good of the team and who repeatedly keeps your QB from getting decapitated.

And who was #1 in average in the NFL? That would be Pollard. Zeke cant do anything without a great offensive line. That has been proven as a fact. Zeke is a JAG.

Oh, but he is an elite blocker. :muttley:

Hey man I can't abide people trashing a guy who is giving this team as much as he has been this year. He has played hurt.. he has had his totes reduced.. he has had to hear all the morons proclaiming his demise and the need to replace him with Tony Pollard.. And he still stands up at the podium for his team.. and he keeps putting his body in front of fast moving huge men for the good of the team and to his own detriment.. That kind of hating simply is not logical to me. They have proclaimed that he "doesn't care since he got paid" while ignoring the amount of physical pain he not only plays through but has to endure every time he has to play bodyguard for Dak. I generally ignore stoopid.. but that level of stoopid annoys me and compels me to speak on it. The other thing that gets me is the proclamation that he is somehow "jealous of Tony Pollard" or scared that Pollard will take his job. I don't think those people ever played any team sports.. and as such don't understand the brotherhood that forms with one's teammates. When one is a true team player one cheers LOUDLY for one's teammates. This is especially true in football because it's a sport that is so heavily dependent on teammates..

On the contrary Zeke is giving this team nothing the last 7 games. He is actually hurting the team. His ego is too fragile to allow Pollard the chance to lead the rushing attack so he refuses not to play even when he is hurting the team.

He thinks it courageous, but its self centered and stupid.

The Cowboys are stuck with him until after the 2022 season. Don’t mean to sound negative against Zeke but he’s making far too much money for blocking, pushing piles and splitting carries with Polard. The Cowboys would love to get out of his contract if they could.

I like Zeke, but football is a brutal sport abd reality is, he’s done. For the entire off-season all we heard is how hard he was training, even Dak reassured he was going to be the old Zeke quicker and faster and more explosive than ever. Never saw it. Lol now I realize he has this nagging knee thing, but the man is just not what he once was and what he once was was very short-lived. He gets no separation whatsoever from anybody. All you have to do is watch a couple plays with Tony Pollard and then Zeke. It’s like night and day. Zeke used to be that explosive. He’s just lost it. Happens to most backs. Happened to him prematurely.

Honestly, if I was Jerry, If there was literally any cap Room to be saved? I’d honestly cut him. Yep, just like Jaylon. Business is business and other than being a great pass blocker picking up blitzes for Dak, he’s finished.

Nope. His contract has him safe for 1 more year.
Two threads about the Cowboys RB situation for 2022 were posted earlier today.
Vast majority of opinions were that Elliott is still RB1 next season due to his contract cap hit.

The guy is running with a brace on his leg; give him some slack, not a lot of slack but he deserves some. The wind blows hard on Tyron and the guy is out for weeks.

Okay...I can agree with that. Declining from WHAT?
From 2 time champ to garbage?
As the whole entire team struggles too? Our oline has been trash, Dak supporters say so..... and the only way either of our RB makes plays is if the OC calls for some movement outside or some delay or ruse. Tony's last TD is proof of that.

Tony's plays are designed for that as #2 "change of pace". He automatically benefits by it.

But it's VERY unknown if he can consistently run and block in the #1 RB plays...the kind NFCE teams must run.

And it's fine if you want him to do that...but admit it's unknown. Not even in college...where zeke tore UP the VERY best 4 teams in the NCCA for 8 TD's and 750 yards. Not resting on distant past...just pointing out pedigree.

It's my opinion you shouldn't just keep a guy because of a contract. If someone is better...than you sign/start him.

If you can't afford to replace him....then you shut your trap and roll with it.

It's easy to imagine in your head that any other RB anywhere would be just as good....but that isn't the reality of our situation here. Maybe a product of fantasy football?

Not you motorola....just...in general .

It’s been a 5 year evolution of the debate. It started as him not being the best in the league and he had lost a step from 2016 to 2017. We finally moved on from him being the best in the league 2 seasons ago with most people realizing he isn’t as fast. Now the debate has been whether he is better than his back up with a handful still thinking he is just as fast just hasn’t had an opportunity to showcase his speed in over 5 years.

To think a guy would have to average 60 yards a game now...to eclipse 1000...is really not that impressive.
Really shows you how average he's become..
