Didn't know he would need Jerry's consent........good luck with that

It's one of several changes to rules regarding hiring practices for all coaches and general managers, with many of the changes focusing on the league strengthening diversity among its head coach and GM ranks.

Teams can interview a candidate for its head coach position in the final two weeks of the regular season, with consent of the candidate's employer, provided the head coach who started the season in that role is no longer in that role, or if that head coach has been told he won't be retained following the end of the season.

Once a team consents to allowing a candidate to interview for one head-coaching role, they cannot block that candidate from interviewing from any other head coaching role prior to the end of the regular season

Dan Quinn needs to stay in Dallas and help bring a few championships to the Cowboys. THAT would help him more than anything to secure another head coaching job anywhere.

Here's what I'm not sure.......if assistants will need team approval AFTER the season is over. In other words, under the old rule teams could not block an assistant coach from interviewing for an HC job. Any other assistant coaching job, including coordinators they could, as long they were under contract.

Quinn doesn't need his GM's permission, the interviewing team does and that has been denied before by playoff teams.

Don't underestimate the effect of his first HC experience, he might be waiting for the best opportunity. Who in the hell wants the Bears?

He doesn't need a job and he should be taken care of very well financially because only a fool wouldn't recognize what he's been able to do in just one year.

They do not need permission to talk to a candidate unless that team is still in the playoff, as long as the job is considered a promotion from their present position.

Quinn already came out and said he is not interested in a head coaching job.
I think he realizes what he has in our emerging defense. These guys are really young and have a chance to be special together.
