Honestly, if it’s between Watt and Parsons there’s no contest. Watt is doing what Watt does and that defense is none the better. Meanwhile, Parsons has catapulted a historically bad defense into a very good one. If all you care about is sacks, sure it’s Watt’s award. But if you’re talking about the all around best and most valuable defensive player, it’s Parsons and it’s really not even close. If Parsons was allowed to do nothing but fly off the edge (ala Watt), he’d be chasing the single season sack record.

I get the want for him to rush every play, but from a tactical standpoint, wouldn't having the offense guessing at whats comming with him be better? I expect him to start getting some picks soon from dropping into hot route lanes as QB's notice this pass rush. A good case can be made for both i suppose.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting "every play". But it was notable to me the difference in how Quinn used him in the two games against Washington vs the game against New York. The Washington games played him to his strengths, giving him multiple opportunities to rush the passer. The same cannot be said of the Giants game.

True they backed him off alot because of Barkley i think...I think a pick 6 in one of these final games would push him past Watt..be like #11 getting a triple double for the season.

Let him rush the passer and it’s a done deal.

At linebacker he’s just not the same guy. Looks like the player I didn’t want with a premium pick because the lack of impact.

When he’s rushing the QB he’s a generational talent.

I get the whole wanting him to be dynamic thing but the guy is a special pass rusher and a normal just a normal rookie at linebacker.

Fans on here want to point to 1 or 2 pass break ups and create a narrative off that but he’s just a normal linebacker really. Pass rusher is what makes him DPOY.

I understand this. But how are you actually going to do this? It sounds genius in theory. Now let’s make it practical. You are going to play him at DE more?

No, I'm going to let him rush as a linebacker. Blitzes. In exactly the same way that Quinn used him against Washington twice. The opposite of what Quinn had him doing against New York.

I mean do normal rookie LB's cover WR and make plays alot?..no doubt he is generational at rushing the QB..but i think he is way more than Normal at playing LB also.

I would love for him to have a pick six for a touchdown, but I think his chances at that are less than they are of him getting a few more sacks with increased pass rushing opportunities.

He could get 4 more sacks and probably a couple FF if you just rush him at the passer the next two game.

Let this kid make history and stop holding him back.

That’s not true. He rushed vs the giants. But that is beside the point. So his usage for Washington was fine or you will blitz him more often from LB than they did vs Washington ?

He broke up a couple passes. Wow. Yes, LVE was guarding wideouts as a rookie at times.

He doesn’t have near the impact on the game when he’s not running down hill.

I’m not saying he is bad or anything. It’s just not near the same impact.

I think that’s just common sense but something the Pom Pom waivers will gladly argue about.

It's 100% 'true'. He had far fewer pass rush opportunities in the Giants game than he had in either contest against Washington.

No, it is exactly the point.

As I've said, the usage both times vs Washington was great, as were the results for both him and the defense. Just ask Taylor Heinike.

But thats the argument I guess, no doubt he was a little wasted in the NYG gameplan (Barkley did jack all but that may not have changed had he rushed the QB)...but what he can do when moving freely up and down the line at LB is a huge weapon. When your QB has to find him then figure out what he is doing while Tank and RG are moving around.it creates havoc in my opinion. When he is at DE and can be clearly accounted for it seems to me that would be easier for the OC to combat.

The thread is about trying to get him DPOY and playing him how we have the last couple of weeks is not the way.

This week is basically make or break.

It’s going to be difficult to bad stats on Hurts because he will run a lot and Micah is just going to accumulate tackles mostly.

LOLLLL at T.J. Watt being the front-runner.

I knew it.

In 2008, When DeMarcus Ware had 20 sacks and outplayed James Harrison, the excuse for why Harrison easily won DPOY was, “Well, Ware’s team isn’t very good and the Steelers D is also ranked higher than the Cowboys D!”

(Never mind the fact that Drew Brees won OPOY and the Saints had the same 8-8 record we did... the new standard for DPOY is that team success counts!!! But it doesn’t apply to OPOY for some reason!!!)

Earlier this season, someone here created a thread about the DPOY award. I brought up the 2008 season and concluded that they will NOT give the award to a Dallas Cowboy unless they absolutely have to.

Fast forward to 2021... and now T.J. Watt is the favorite... because even though the Steelers are .500 (like 2008 Ware’s team was), and even though the Steelers D is inferior to ours, WATT HAS THE MOST SACKS SO HE’S DPOY!!!

So, so predictable.
:lmao2::lmao2::lmao2:

Playing victim is not a good look but it must not be tiring when you look around these boards. So now Vegas is biased too? SMH. Watt basically saved a game versus the Ravens and leads the league in sacks. Those things tend to stand out.

I'd love for Micah to do what LT did but I want the team to do what they'd naturally do with him and not force it for individual accolades. Same for Diggs. They are too important for the playoff push for us to go rogue chasing individual awards. I liked that they rested starters during the blow out, especially Micah. I think part of why Micah does great with rushing the passer is he doesn't do it every down. No need to wear him down when it's working just fine now.
