I do not order delivery, but I never thought the 20% "rule" applied to drivers. Presumably, with wait staff the more the bill = more items = more work. With divers, however, they're going to the same place regardless.

So distance from the restaurant to my house would be my guide.

Don't want to derail the thread, but one thing that irks me is when you go to a deli or cafe where you pick-up your own food when your number is called, yet have a tip box next to the cashier.

They are doing the bare minimum to facilitate the transaction and service, yet they are kinda like asking "can we just have some extra money....just cuz?"

I put into the tip jar at the pizza place, so they remember me, and when they get the order for a "small pizza, with pepperoni, sausage, and jalapeño", they make sure it's done perfectly.

I've noticed there's a grey area in tipping. If you order delivery, do you tip a percentage of the subtotal of all the food or do you also include the delivery fee? For example, you order a sandwich and drink, which costs:
$22.50 (food and drink)
$3.00 (delivery fee).
$2.14 (tax)

I know you don't include the tax. However, if you want to tip 20%, do you calculate $22.50 X .20? Or do you add the delivery fee and thus calculate $25.50 X .20?
I give a 20% tip every time, minus fees, taxes and delivery charges. I also round up to an even dollar number so when I review statements I can tell immediately when a server or bartender messed with something.

Did DoorDash during the lockdowns and the delivery fee goes to the driver.
Yep I tried Door Dash they were always deducting money from my pay for odd ball reasons. Did they do that to you? Made more money doing Uber Eats Im cheap sometimes but tip delivery 5 bucks never more never less

I don't think that cows should be tipped.

Sure they should. If you enjoy all that great dairly like milk, cheese, ice cream, milkshakes, etc., you should appreciate cows. Next time you drive past a pasture, I want you to stop and go offer one of those cows a dollar.

someone told me door dash doesn’t give tips to the drivers. I dunno how true it is but it does make me cautious about it.

If someone brings the food to me and it is good service, than I tip any where from 18%-25% of the bill. If I go get the food than I am not tipping usually, but sometimes I do. My daughters have told several times that I tip well.
