From the NFL rule book:

ARTICLE 2. BALL READY FOR PLAY
A Dead Ball is Ready for Play while the 40-second Play Clock is running when the ball is placed down by an official at the spot where the ball will next be put in play, or when the Referee signals for the 25-second Play Clock to start.

So MM referenced last years Jax/Min game as a play they showed the team as a training tool. It’s on you tube.

Jax runs a 15 yard draw with :13 left, RB hands ball to Center, Ump touches ball. Jax spike with :01. They missed ensuing game winning fg, game went to OT.

McCarthy says the center can spot the ball, the official just has to touch it, and then the ball can be snapped. He said they work on it that way

:rolleyes::eek::huh:
ok mike , but wouldnt it be quicker to hand him the ball and get out of his way so he can set it down ,and give the ok to snap the ball???????
The ref had to fight thru dak and 2 linemen to get to ball that took a second or 2. Refs always set the ball, not the players, so even if a player sets it
the ref will reset it, he isnt going to just touch it and give go ahead.

Mike is making a fool of himself defending sloppy play and execution of it, and a bad call for the time left.
He cant admit he made a mistake, and didnt teach his players how to run that play properly.

Now he says 10 yds would be better , well your few days late on that one mike, I doubt they even had a set amount dak should run.
Dak ran until he was confronted, so he might have gone 20 yds if not confronted. 15 yds was too much.

Also they had time for 2 passes to the endzone, from the 40 and that gives better odds than 1 after a hard to execute play like that draw.
you blew it mike, just own it and stop defending it, blaming refs, and saying you will now modify it lol, and do it again!

I cant believe jones boys want to keep him as HC ! :omg:

McCarthy is an idiot. He was still trying to defend a play they did horribly wrong. If he practiced this play and didn't know to hand the ball to the official. Thats another reason he needs to go. Now I see why the team blames everyone else minus themselves. He has no accountability how do you expect his team to?

The official chewed up time by running over to Dak & pushing him out of the way to touch the ball & again trying to get out of the way before Dak lined up. Think about it, that's at least a good six seconds taken off the clock.

Still don't agree with draw play. With all our weapons, Dak had at least two tries tossing to end zone being the Niners were in "sideline defense".

That's my story & I'm sticking to it!

He should have had time for a last play. A throw for a TD to Lamb, called back by a holding call on Williams. Runs off the last seconds..

The problem is the Cardinals on this play threw the ball for under 10 yards. That is a quicker play. Dak ran for 17 yards which is slower. Romo said it on the broadcast. He should have taken a dive after 10 yards leaking more time to get up and snap the ball. Again, just another example of the Cowboys players not being smart enough to understand the dynamics of such a play which is why the coach should not call it.

But I want to hear the explanation of that fake punt then leaving teh punting team on the field. I heard on the radio that they stayed on because the offense was caught by surprise and not ready to go back on the field.

Bottom line is that it was a sh*tty play call.Should have thrown 2 times to the end zone.To not even get 1 attempt is horrendous and unacceptable.

It's doable (11:21 on video). Jags did it last year but it's hard to defend relying on the speed of a referee. Maybe give the ref a heads up that that might be coming? Either way they made too many mistakes to win and weren't going to figure it out next week against Tampa Bay.
