Played somewhat better this year, but the Front Office made the right call and dodged a major bullet not picking up the option on his contract for next year.

So we basically have 3 options:

1. Let him go in free agency.

2. Offer him a contact long term.

3. Offer him a one year prove it type deal.

I am leaning towards option # 3.

Maybe one year at 3M with incentives?

Curious what other here think ?

Money will be tight with the cap, so that's a factor to consider as well.

Give him a low ball offer slightly go higher if you need and thats about it. He is not horrible but he is not his rookie self. He will play in this league about 10 years but more of another guy than a star which is fine makes him $.

I dont see him taking a 1 year prove it deal. His agent would say we just did that. Stayed healthy all year and was half way productive. LVE can be a good LB when DT's in front of him do their jobs. If we dont sign him they will have to bring someone else in. The crowded LB room from the training camp days is depleted. Jaylon Smith is gone. Neal could be gone as well. If its not LVE then it has to be someone. If he wants to be in Dallas and gives a good price to be signed, I say sign him.

Sign him 1-2 years for cheap.
We still need to improve at LB. Preferably fast guys that can actually contain tosses, stretch plays and sweeps.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings to let LVE go. Question is, who is going to replace him? Don't know who will be available in FA. And I'm sure Stephen and Jerry will not pay a lot for one either. We can draft a LB, but, other than a Parsons type player, I can't see a rookie starting at LB.
