Cake schedules are built on the foundation of a VERY weak division. Being the division champion of the 3rd worst division in football is nothing in itself to brag about.

But somehow Jerry and co (including fans) never consider strength of schedule as a factor, which is stunning to me.

"Since entering the NFL in 2016, Dak Prescott is 13-20 (.393) against teams that finished the season with a winning record."

That should tell you everything you need to know, but for some reason that isn't.

People are CONVINCED that this QB and this team that are .393 against teams with winning records is somehow going to go on a fluke run in the playoffs each round largely more competitive than the previous...

It isn't a fluke that Dak Prescott is 1-3 in the playoffs (call that 1-4 with not making the playoffs a year).

This idea being that because they were 12-5, they were somehow good and the roster had the talent to win a super bowl and that has been wasted somehow.

QB Winning % against teams at or above 0.500

Aaron Rodgers: .456
Kirk Cousins: .173
Josh Allen: .411
Justin Herbert: .166
Deshaun Watson: .269
Matthew Stafford: .106
Carson Wentz: .322
Derek Car: .237
Matt Ryan: .360

Dak's winning percentage is actually one of the better in the league. It is hard to win games against good teams. It is the nature of the NFL.

That being said, I'm not a very big Dak Prescott fan after this season's awful performance but this narrative is just factually flawed and should not be used anymore.

Dak was inaccurate, unpoised, at times embarrassing (the refs comments), etc. this season but his winning % against winning teams is actually pretty good.

This thread has no legs to stand on.

How many super bowl rings on this list in total?

I’m trying to remember if we thought it was a cake schedule entering the season. I seem to remember not much positive expectations AND a skid division championship.

The Cowboys finished 3rd in their division in 2020, so they got a 3rd place schedule in 2021. Now that they have finished 1st in 2021, they will get a 1st place schedule. It remains to be seen how hard it will be. ;)

We kinda do that too, on this board, in regard to the convincing.

Do you have the full list of every starting QB?

Just Google “QB records vs teams above 0.500”. First hit.

So before this season he was 9th with context. Guys like lock, Herbert, Jones still young with less than 10 games played against .500 teams and of course Stafford was on the lions so of course the record was horrid. Looks to me the only QB's with a worse percentage that were on decent to good teams were Mayfield and cousins.

Only the elite have winning records against winning teams. That's very few too. The Great Tony Romo has a losing record against winning teams. Just slightly better than Dak's.

https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/6xmd1n/every_qbs_record_against_winning_teams_from_0916/

That link is from 2009 to the end of his career. I spent an hour taking a look at the 2006/07/08 seasons and it's about the same.

About the same overall winning percentage, about the same winning percentage against losing teams, about the same passing rating and the exact same playoff record. But if you want to add losses because they didn't make the playoffs then Romo's playoff record is about, off the top of my head, 1-8. That's stupid what you did, by the way.

Dak has a 98.7 career passer rating, which is 2nd to only Aaron Rodgers. The Great Tony Romo is right behind him with a 95.62 rating. They both got that good rating by beating lesser teams. But somehow we as fans don't want to admit they are exactly the same, instead we take sides and make excuses as to why either has won us a divisional playoff game.

When the thread started out about the team coming up short, it was fine.

But in the real world,QBs dont have won-loss records….only teams do.
QB records are a silly media thing

I don't know why people keep bringing up Dak Prescott as if he's at fault. I agree with the overall assessment, but not who is at fault. I am not Dak fan, I was against signing him. How many times does this blaming the QB narrative have to be proven wrong? Dak is not Blake Bortles, nor is he Aaron Rodgers. He's a good quarterback. Yet people somehow think things would have been different but for Dak. We just got beat by an inferior quarterback!! That should tell you all you need to know. Garoppolo single handedly put us back in the game. We got beat by a better team. We got beat due to two million penalties. Their defense was clearly playing at a higher intensity level than our offense.

In 2019 Garoppolo's led 49ers didn't just beat the Packers, but stomped them! Did Packers fans start saying they needed Russel Wilson? Aaron Rodgers didn't lose that game, but somehow Dak lost this one.
