You're not alone in that belief. I have some friends who are convinced that Payton will coach the Cowboys THIS YEAR.
I think theres a small chance.

Jerry is probably waiting to see what happens with Quinn.

Don't forget that he and Payton are legit friends. They may have a side scenario worked out.

Really though, for a few reasons, id wait on it.

But I'm also fine punting on 2022 to get rid of some fat, lazy Garrett stench like 71 and 21.

Take the hits, make no big commitments and try not to hamstring your brand new coach for 2023.

Jerry is taking a big risk if he lets payton step away for a year. He might get comfortable in his new gig , surely will be making more money, and moving him out of that may be challenging. I’m slowly moving towards thinking they may make a move this year.

The problem I have with buying the Florio story is that Jerry would have dumped Garrett THAT easily....considering when he did finally do it it wasn't easy for him at all.

Then he lets an Anthony Davis announcement severely alter his plans? They could gave waited to let the smoke clear or upped the offer.

Not that Florio is a liar but it all just seems off to me.

Jerry doesn't usually make those type of moves, and the kid is ultra conservative.

Payton may in fact be looking at the deals and schedules guys like Romo, Aikman, and Jimmy Johnson have. That's a much better life and money than any head coaching position can match. With the networks and newcomers like Amazon jockeying for talent, there's never been a better time to get into a broadcasting gig if he thinks he can be good at it.

Nah....as Paytons mentor said many times....."coaches coach."

He will be back. He is young.

I think he is THAT mad at McCarthy at this point.

He sold his postseason experience as a huge part of being here in the first place, never stops reminding us....but then says the team was nervous when the time came. What??

Just....either way.....I don’t care whose record is what in the past because you can't take past wins and make them count now.

But if I have to choose between McCarthy an Payton to be my HC moving ahead....its not even close.

Brees never had to run Payton out of town because he didn't think he could get it done.

The "nervousness" and his absolute lack of involvement in the offensive game plan sicken me.

I've given MM the benefit of the doubt but he's proven to be a lazy bum.

The regular season game we played vs GB back in 2016 I couldn't believe how crap GB and MM looked. That team had fallen apart and MM was on the hot seat. Then of course they rallied and beat us in the playoffs. That said I was taken aback at how terrible they looked prior.

I overlooked that and after his year off, and bought in to the crap he was peddling. After his exit press conference I couldn't be more disgusted.

How the hell do you not involve yourself in the offense when you know damn well they are struggling?

Florio mentioned if the Cowboys overachieve next year McCarthy could stay which means expectations for the team won’t be very high heading into 2022. When have the Cowboys ever overachieved? If it’s going to take the team overachieving to save McCarthy he’s as good as done. lol

I heard we were going to trade for Sean Payton back in 2018, but then Kevin Durant scored 39 in a game against the Raptors on a Tuesday and it torpedoed the whole deal.

Yep. Same story I read on his site. Pretty amazing if true that the course of the Cowboys organization turned on the demands of a basketball player.

yeah it is. I think there’s definitely a lot of truth to it but I think he’s being a bit hyperbolic also- as someone whose a huge nba fan, Anthony Davis did request a trade on 1/28 that year....a week before the deadline. it was meant to force his way to the lakers where he eventually ended up and wanted to be.

However he wasn’t traded then and never was going to be because of a CBA rule that made the Celtics unable to trade for him until after the season ended. Boston had the best assets package & even if he never was going to Boston (AD didn’t want to) they need them involved to run up the trade return.

point being is if Payton truly wanted to come here that offseason loomis could have made it happen or Sean could have leaked he didn’t wanna coach the Saints anymore. There was other ways to make it happen.

Do Not know how true this is but it is interesting if trure.

Damn.. As a Life time Laker Fan comes #2 Behind My #1 Cowboys, this just sickens me do to the fact that we could have gotten SP..?:banghead: Granted The Lakers won the Chip under AD but with AD Injury Prone and my Lakers sucking this year, History comes in Mysterious Ways..

Here is another one for you....In 2011,NBA commissioner David Stern took over New Orleans Franchise, Stern intern Vetoed :banghead:what would have been a history-altering trade to pair New Orleans superstar point guard Chris Paul with the late Kobe Bryant and the Lakers..

Again History comes in Mysterious Ways..:omg:

I don't see that happening. If anything, McCarthy will just go into a shell and realize that he's getting paid for three more years no matter what else happens. Given the guaranteed salaries for coaches, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to find guys that are just going for that 'golden parachute' retirement contract and don't much care how things turn out. And why would they? They get theirs either way.
And it wouldn't shock me coming from a chump like Mccarthy to do that

I posted exactly that yesterday.

I guess not too many clicked on the link within the link. This is a huge story.

I'd guess it was a future 1st though, and should not be that a year from now.
105.3 is stating rumours it's only a 3rd they are looking for
