After watching Aaron Donald we could really use something similar

Every time the cowboys have won a SB they have been VERY STRONG up the middle. Bob Lilly and Randy White and others who were better than anyone we have had for twenty years nearly (occasionally we have had ONE really good player in the middle but no more) In The 90's we had several who were all pretty much the same (except for Lett who was Pro Bowl caliber) Maryland and Cassius and others.

Like so many other things the Jones boys miss this and keep trying to get by with jags and worse.
Hater talk.

Does anybody other than me get the feeling that we could really use something similar to that in the middle of our defensive line.
Is there a reason why we can't use a high draft pick on a player that can impact the game like that. He isn't even a real big guy 6-1. 284. This guy has a motor that just won't stop

I don't even think Jerry's horrible culture could stop this guy's motor

Thoughts???
Go to the draftzone, made a post over the weekend about the same topic. I think this D, is one interior rusher away from being real good. However, these players don't grow on trees, hard to find.

To be fair, this is like saying ON OFFENSE, we can use somebody like prime Dan Marino or John Elway…

While we are at it, we use someone with the same impact as prime Tom Brady... because that is what your asking to find.

yeah, we could really use one. I called up and forwarded an email to 31 teams, telling them that if there is a DT in the draft that's like donald, they should not pick him and just let cowboys have him...we are getting one this year. I am on it.

Thank God brother you're on it I know if we left it up to Jerry we'd all be dead before it happened.
Hey can I get an Amen on us shooting the works and trading up for a guy like that

I think Tom Brady might still be in his prime or at least his level have play has not fallen off yet if that makes any sense.

How about if Tom Brady is way out of his prime at this point I would settle for our quarterback just reaching that level.

Not like the Donald and Chris Jones of the worlds are just falling off trees, ...

Teams have got to be fortunate, lucky and have due diligence work to even get those kind of impact interior players.

Donald was actually extremely high on the Cowboys draft board and reports were that they were prepared to select him in 1st rd. before the Rams swept him up instead...

The key talking heads of the Cowboys management (Stephen, McClay) ignored the Jerry pipe dreams of selecting Johnny Manziel, to instead draft future HOFer Zack Martin.

He’s a generational talent. Khalil Mack and Micah Parsons, if Parsons continues to play like he did the year ever year of his career, are guys that can be mentioned with him as impact players. But they are LBs and Parsons can’t do what Donald does.

The difference is Donald is a DT. To be this dominant at DT position for this long while getting double and triple teams is just on a different level. Just watch him and see the resources offense put in trying to stop him.

This also shows how good Zach Martin is, because when Zach lined up against him, they effectively neutralize each other.

Remember when Conner Williams and Xavier Su'a-Filo actually held their own vs Donald on different periodical games, - including Williams in 2018 playoffs vs Rams ?
But you know A-D is gonna bring it every year and still one you have to account for. That's why Rams DC like to move him from end to end, side to side. ...

After watching the best player in football, I too think the Cowboys could probably find a way to use him.

Here is the reality of where we are at....the Cowboys are good enough and should be for a while to not be picking inside the top 15 picks of the draft. Not like you cant find great interior DL outside the top 15 (Chris jones is a great example) but your odds go down considerably. Personally I would have no issues if the Cowboys find a DT they love sitting in round 1, but with as many holes as we have on the Oline my guess is we go that route.

The piece that fans miss is the player development aspect. The Cowboys have invested high picks in each of the last few drafts on DTs. Gallimore, OSA, and Hill are all 3rd round or higher picks. We can do the same again this year with a 2nd/3rd rounder, but should we expect much different results? Those are the rounds you typically get a guy with physical traits, but needs developed still. I have no issues if Jerry went to Dan Quinn and said this offseason is mostly going towards rebuilding the offense. Lets try to resign a few guys from our defense, but lets focus on actually getting the most out of these last two defensive heavy drafts. I dont love Hill, but I can see rotational value there. Osa I see with high potential traits, but probably needs to add 10LBS this offseason and somehow not lose his quickness in doing so. I still expect him to reach low end starter/high end rotational guy. Gallimore is the guy that I think can be that dominant presence inside. He has the size, strength, and speed combo that everyone looks for, but is tough to find. He gets dominated in the run game, but has all the physical tools to fix that. Its a shame he missed so much of the season because he is a guy that I think really just needs reps. When I watch him on tape I see a guy who struggles to read blocks. I feel if this coaching staff cant develop Gallimore I dont have a ton of hope they can develop another DT.

You’re not gonna get a Donald. You have a better chance drafting the next Vita Vea to pair with Gallimore. The DL was solid this year. We need to figure out how to retain our talent, add depth, and beef up the middle.

31 other teams literally look for an Aaron Donald clone every season.

There is only one Donald

:hammer:

I can’t believe that some people apparently think that you can just ‘get one’ of Aaron Donald.

Kind of why I think we need to use a first-round pick on a defensive tackle that doesn't need a lot of development because we don't seem to be very good at developing players there

I wonder how many fans of other teams are saying ..

"After watching Micah Parsons, we could really use a guy like that" :D :D

There are probably quite a few teams that could use a guy like Micah Parsons and you know what they may have to use a first-round draft pick to get one like we did.

Let's see if I can spell it out a little More clearly for you after watching Aaron Donald last night I believe we should use a first-round draft pick on a defensive tackle as we have been weak there for probably over a decade.

Watching Aaron Donald play goes a long way in showing how weak we are at the position sure I realize everyone would like to have Aaron Donald and you don't pick generational players like that off trees.

THE POINT OF THE POST IS THAT WE NEED TO USE A FIRST-ROUND DRAFT PICK TO
TRY AND FIX THIS POSITION OF NEED

Been screaming for one for years. Guys I desperately wanted in draft: Grady Jarrett, Geno Atkins, Javon Hargrave, Mike Daniels, Jurrell Casey

All these guys were attainable, but before this last draft, Jerry insisted that all his DL's be 6-5. It's been obvious that he doesn't get leverage.
