Moving to Milwuakee in the late 90’s and seeing Butler play he was solid. I was surprised when saw him get into the hall of fame. He definitely wasn’t a tier above Woodson I actually though Woodson was a better safety. Similar award achievements. Woodson might get inducted in the next ten years unless theses a bias

charlie Waters needs to speak to Pearson about his campaigning

i was caught quite off guard with Leroy Butler making the HOF list... even over DWare ...wow !

Butler in, ..but Darren Woodson still out ..??

What's gonna have to happen with Woody is gonna need local Dallas' Rick Goose Gosslein (longtime HOF committee member) to vouch stronger
for him,.. and hopefully Woody won't have to wait " Decades" and cry his way into HOF like Drew Pearson ..

For some reason, I thought ex-players and coaches were allowed to vote now? Is it still just media? That's BS if so. Shouldn't have to vouch for anyone.

While this sounds good in theory, in practice, it's likely not going to happen. Butler was named to the All-Decade team of the 90s. Woodson should have, but the selectors picked a washed up Ronnie Lott instead, despite Lott being a shell of his former self, and only playing half the decade. The people who vote for the All-Decade teams are also the same people who are the enshriners for the Hall of Fame.

Leroy Butler had 38 INTs compared to 23 for Darren Woodson. He also had one more forced fumble and 20.5 sacks compared to 11 sacks for Woody. That puts Butler a tier above him.

It’s tough to get in as a safety.

Butler was a great player in that Packers defense. I still believe Woodson isnt getting in because Deion took all Woodson’s spotlight that he had from a national scene and then Woodson became forgotten during the 5-11 seasons.

The reason why he won’t get in is because of what you said it’s tough getting in as a safety. He had 23 INT’s which isn’t a lot for a HOF safety. It took Cliff Harris forever to get in and he had 29 INT’s.

In 1988 Florida's State's two starting CBs were Deion Sanders and Leroy Butler. Not a bad pair of college CBs.

Must put Walls in way before Woody. Woody may have 2 wait a very long time as well.

I could be wrong but I don't think Butler was ever a corner and FSU. FSU was loaded back in them days and had plenty other guys to put at corner. My memories of that team was always with Butler roaming all over the place. He was the "robber" in that defense..

Atwater is already in the HOF.

The glut is slowly unfurling itself. Atwater is in. Butler is in. Woodson getting in is the next logical step. Woodson / Butler have always seemed to cancel each other for HOF votes. Now that Butler is in, I think the path is there for Woody.

I don't think there is any relation between Butler and Woodson. Woodson may have a long wait...and even that is not a given.

Did woody have more tackles? Did he contribute to 3 Rings?..

He has 3 rings, revolutionized the position by being able to cover the slot, support the run and being the Dallas alltime leader in tackles

He had more tackles, Jaylon Smith was leading the Cowboys in tackles but that’s not the big stat the Hall of Fame committee looks at. They’re looking at playmaking ability INT’s, sacks and forced fumbles. Butler out produced Woody in all those categories. It took Woodson years to get into the ROH. As for the three championships Charles Haley and Deon got most of the glory on defense. Can’t think of a real stand out play Woody made in those Super Bowls. James Washington made one so did Leon Lett and Jimmy Jones. Larry Brown was a Super Bowl MVP.
