I believe if Dallas wants to go all in next year, they have to do everything they can to the cap in order to accomplish 3 things to the roster:
1)Bring back key players
Players like Gregory, Schultz, Kearse and obviously Bryan Anger-the best punter to ever play the game. They could probably afford to lose 1 of those 3 (either Gregory or Schultz) but losing 2 or those 3 will just mean they have to fill holes in the draft or free agency. Filling holes makes it difficult to improve the roster.
2)Keep big name players like Lawrence and Cooper
Yeah they maybe on the decline but it's not easy to replace players like that in a single offseason. That would mean Dallas would have to target a WR and edge rusher in rounds 1-3 to just replace players. And who knows if those rookies will be reliable and and able to contribute right away.
3)Draft best player available rounds 1, 2, 3
Select players that are on top of your board. Keeping all the talent they can would give them that draft flexibility.
4)Sign 2 key free agents
Again, stretch the cap as far as they can and get 2 to 3 new starters. A reliable Guard, and solid LB or 2 since that is where the roster is thin at.
The front office needs to take a shot.
If they fail, oh well. At least they tried. And besides, 2023 is most likely going to be a rebuild year regardless of the 2022 season.
