The off season is upon us starting at around 10 PM Central time today Feb 13th. So time is near to debate what Dallas will do in free agency, what and who will be restructured, who will be resigned before free agency and of course endless mock drafts and who or who will not be available when we draft.

Sure we can say BPA regardless of position although much of that depends on free agency and what we do.

I am looking at the draft for a difference maker, a Parsons if you will, that comes in day one and makes one side of the ball better all around. Now if we are to believe the numerous analysts and experts about the draft then we should believe that not a single QB should be drafted in the first round. How many want to bet that happens because I am willing and able to take your money. Those same guys have already said that most guys in this draft except for one probably wouldn't be in the top 10/15. What do we believe is another question/answer.

I am going by what positions will likely be drafted and when, so let me make a case for Dallas.

I do not think Dallas should stay at 24. I believe they should move up. Move up for Kyle Hamilton S Notre Dame. He has generational talent written all over him. Yes, I know he has been mocked all the way from #1 overall down to #19 so where will he go. Safeties over the last several years are normally drafted mid teens through late 20s.

Fun fact is no team that has drafted a safety in the top fifteen has won a Super Bowl since 1991. Over the last 12 years there have been 4 drafted in the top 10 but only Earl Thomas and Eric Berry proved worth the pick.

Okay why Kyle Hamilton? For me, it is because he is a great safety and would make the secondary one of the best if not the best secondary in the league. Hamilton is a big guy at 6'4" 220 but also a 4.3/4.4 speed guy, great coverage skills and great tackling skills, nose for the ball and team leader. But for me it is his ability to play both safety spots as well as linebacker, again a lot like Parsons, he isn't just a one trick pony. Our defense would be one of the best and regardless of what one believes, it is almost always defense that wins championships.

What would it cost? Tricky question because where will he be for us to move up. Best bet would be the 9 through 14 spots. It is probably going to cost your 2023 #1 along with the 24th pick this year and most likely something more. You can look at multiple situations but I think a trade with Denver or Cleveland would be the best cases since Denver may really need an extra #1 to get Aaron Rodgers and Cleveland would need the draft capital to get plan on the 2023 draft to possibly replace Mayfield at QB.

Is Hamilton worth the price? If the evaluations are correct, then if you have a good almost great defensive then he brings it to another level. In thinking about Dallas, it means more chances for the offensive and most likely shorter fields in which to score. That is a win/win no matter how you see it.

So to me, go up and get him or like last year, get lucky and hope he falls to 24 (not going to happen) but maybe just maybe he falls to 17 or 18 and the cost goes down but getting him will make a huge difference, just my opinion.

I think the Cowboys can get a difference making safety, linebacker, guard, and pass rusher at 24. Just stay patient, someone will fall. There are no Parsons in this draft.

I think the focus should be on finding hard nosed defenders to support Micah's talent...like finding a NT to protect #11 and a LB to allow him to move around to rush the passer.

Looking at the draft, I see solid players not game changers like Parsons.

“Generational talents” in the draft prove to be average all the time

no way would a smart GM trade up

I'd love a safety but I hope for it ever year and they never pull the trigger so I quit wishing.
First round safeties in recent drafts have fallen completely out of the first round, moehrig last year,
mckinney, and a few others. I wouldn't be suprised if he's there at 24 just based on the position he plays.
However, let's see the combine because that will really set the bar. I would love to see Hamilton as the pick though, great breakdown also!

At 24 we’re looking for someone that can contribute in year 1 and turn into an above average starter.

Parsons is an outlier.

Some notable picks @ 24:

Dez, Cam Jordan, Najee Harris, David DeCastro, Chris Johnson (former STUD Titan RB)…just to name a few. You can EASILY find talent @ pick 24.

We can get a really good player at 24. A difference maker. But Parsons is special. There isn’t a player like hm in this draft.

I like the way you think. I would trade my first 3 picks for one exceptional player. Hamilton might be that guy.

Remember the trade for Claiborne? Yeah me too.

The playoffs expose weaknesses and even just a casual look at our wild card game shows two. A porous run defense and the inability to run the ball. The Niners ran for 169 yards on us and we managed a grand total of 77. In the draft and free agency I'm looking for NT like Robinson for the Rams, LBs good against the run, offensive line including a blocking TE, and a RB with fresh legs..

After 20 years of ignoring safety, there is zero chance the team would move up that far to take one. Less than zero actually.

We can find good players we just have to look. KC got the Center out of OU last year and he played fantastic

Last year the unicorn with the ability to alter teams game plans was the TE out of Florida Kyle Pitts. And I'd be willing to bet that offenses made sure they knew where Parsons was lined up last year. I don't know if I advocate drafting a two down DT in round one but Davis could be the type of player the opposing offenses game plan around and would also help fix a glaring weakness.

Overview
Beefy, mountainous nose tackle with the size, power and will to clog the drain and alter the offense's desire to run between the tackles. Davis has anchor and quick-shed talent to eviscerate single blocks and successfully occupy double teams, allowing linebackers to thrive in pursuit of ball-carriers. He plays upright, lacking agility and reactive quickness to mark up a stat sheet with any consistency, but that's not what he's asked to do. Davis won't be as effective against outside-zone teams and won't offer much rush, but he could become one of the league's best run-pluggers as soon as he takes the field.
Strengths
  • Assignment-oriented player but still thrives.
  • Squares the block and tosses it aside when he's ready.
  • Flows through an edge when he finds his positioning.
  • Pure power to battle through wash-down blocks.
  • Can shed blocks and transition a gap over.
  • Has talent to do more than just neutralize double teams.
  • Hands are pinpoint accurate into the blocker's shoulders.
  • Plays with hand quickness to slap opponent's hands off of him.
  • Never on the ground.
  • Won't be blocked by a single block.
  • Has size to overwhelm certain opponents.
  • Potential to alter opponent's game plan.

I doubt they would take safety at 24 unless their board is wiped out.
I seriously doubt they would trade up to take a safety.
This team does not seem to value Safety. We took Roy Williams and that was the last safety we have taken in the first three rounds of a draft and that was in 2002. Basically 20 years of not taking a safety in the first three rounds so I don't think they are going to trade up to take one.
