Jeremiah on the TE class

This draft is loaded with Schultz-esque type TEs.

This is why I would have zero hesitance in letting Schultz walk and using the 3rd-4th round compensation on his replacement.

I think Otton, Ruckert, and Ferguson are gonna surprise folks and be some serious steals - they are COMPLETE TE’s that were WOEFULLY underutilized in their college offenses.

We won’t get that compensation til next year. But I’m with you. No need to spend on the TE position in FA when we need to spend elsewhere.

You don’t get a comp pick until next years draft

I like all three. I think Ferguson can be a heck of a blocker on the line as well. I think Ruckert can be a better pro than college TE because he was not used much in the passing game. I like Otton as well but he has had injury issues.

Shultz is a better player than many realize, but the salary cap is a real thing. There may be some drop off between Schultz and a rookie, but there would also be some real cap savings.

Unless Schultz signs a very team friendly deal you let him walk. He’s not a true difference maker. You can’t pay average players like an all star.

I believe the team could sign a quality veteran as good as Shultz for half the price. Not discounting Shultz, just don't think he is worth 12 million per season for what he gives the team.

I don’t think Schultz sucks. I just don’t think he’s worth he’ll likely get in the open market.

Take it FWIW, but spotrac has his estimated market value at $12.6M per year.

If for whatever reason he doesn’t see that kind of money being offered I’d have no issues signing him to something in the $8-9M range (annual).

Reception stats don't win games.

Everyone agrees the run game is a huge problem and Schultz is a big part of that.

I don't want him here even at half of what he will probably get.

When the NFL becomes a PPR league ill look into signing a guy like him.

Valid points. But at least Schultz gets you 60+ catches, 800 yards and a handful of TDs. I don't want to spend the cap on Schultz either. But it may be what is needed.

Jarwin is unproven and hasn't played much in two seasons. McKeon is unproven, Sprinkle is a blocker only. Would be a hell of a task for a rookie TE to come in and dominate.

If you rewatch some games, especially later in the season, and focus only on run plays and why they did or didn't work, you wouldn't want that player here no matter what his catch stats say.

In fact his poor run blocking may very well have set up his check down option stats by putting us in an awful down and distance by never even getting a piece of his man on run plays.
