Don't really know the player besides reading about him and seeing some highlights. Micah is our star. The best way to get his best, is to let him shine and keep bodies off him. Therefore, a guy who takes up bodies and controls the line is very important. Look what the Ravens did with Ray Lewis to allow him to shine. Davis is probably not a guy who is going to get a lot of sacks from inside. That player probably needs to be found or developed, but I think there is real value of a guy who controls the interior line.

If the Scouts or Coaches do not see him as a 3 down player aka able to provide some rush up the middle, chances are they will not take him in the first round.

I find this a bit confusing. Payne will get around 18m a season IMO which is pretty much in-line with the others. Tomlinson and A'shawn are not nearly as good as Payne.

The DTs getting paid in that ballpark right now are Jon Allen, Vea, Fletcher Cox, Kenny Clark, and Cam Heyward. Salaries do inflate year over year, but all those guys are Pro Bowl level players and Payne's not that kind of guy.

Circling it back to Davis, none of those guys making big bucks got there solely by stuffing runs at a super high level. The difference between say A'Shawn and Tomlinson vs Kenny Clark and Vea is that the latter two can provide some pass rush juice while also going black hole mode in the A gap.

No one who's watched a Georgia game will doubt that Davis can go black hole mode... his evaluation hinges on how much pressure you think he can provide on top of that.

I’d take Travis Jones over Davis if I was on the clock. Massive dude that can give you the space eater / run blocking but I think he has the tools to develop some ability to apply pressure as a pass rusher.

Im hot and cold on Davis. Cant make up my mind. 24 might be rich, but I dont see not being a quality contributor either. If he can Payne or Tomlinson in the passing game, that should be enough.

With Quinn remaining, at 6'6 he should have the length to play some at that 4i spot Quinn likes to use ala Red Bryant.
He is too rich for me at 24, as he projects as just a base down player and offers nothing as a pass rusher. Mathis/Jones are the better fits in my opinion.

Vea had 15 TFL's his college career. Even with the 11 sacks thats still well below 1 a game. 2 gap DT's arent going to get that kind of splash production
Vea is a rare breed, very few like him and he is a legit 3 down player who even can play the 3.

Davis is exactly what the defense has been missing. He is a gigantic, athletic DT who isn't going to get blown off the ball. I don't care if he can sack the QB (which he can). We have other guys who can get to the QB. What we need is an immovable object in the middle.

Damon Harrison was an impact player for a good amount of years. I'd take Davis at 24 if he could do that
Harrison actually had impact against the pass, where Davis is the type that just cannot be moved off a spot. He does help out run game, but there is no chance this front office takes a 2 down player in rd 1. Honestly believe, Ridgeway is a comparable player that you can get 2 rounds later.

Honestly I think JDavis is a 3down player because he can push the pocket and demands a double team. This lets everyone else be 1v1 and still just rush 4.
Bringing an extra like Parsons becomes devastating or teams have to account for Parsons coming by keeping players in to block.
Lovely problem to have especially if you can get a second LB that can cover and has some rush ability as well.

Davis doesn't need to get sacks. He needs to keep the QB from stepping up, demand a double of C and one of the guards, and free up the LB's to rush or drop.

Yea I think him and second year Bohana have potential. More potential than the Woods/Hamilton combo

What do guys think is a dominant run stuffing DT worthy of a late first round pick?

[/QUOTE

The tape I’ve seen looks dominant . Would love to see Dallas land him and start putting the brakes to other teams handling our middle D. Then in rounds 2 and 3 take the best O linemen on the board no matter guard center or tackle .
