Cowboys could cut Brown, and Re-sign him as backup

5 million and we're not certain Joseph would start over Brown? No.

I have a hard time believing that if you release Brown another team doesn't come in and pay him at least $5MM per year. If anything I would think Brown is someone you could trade for 5th round pick. It's not like a starting CB making $5MM, even if you view him as a 3rd/4th CB is an issue for most teams.

I agree. I think there’s a better chance of trading him than Lawrence or Cooper’s contracts.

But that probably hasn’t occurred to them.

I didnt know we had so much CB depth that we could start cutting people..

If you’re going to start Joseph you move on from Brown or Lewis. Pretty simple

Right now, Joseph's not the starter. He probably will be, but I don't cut players based on probables. Brown had possibly his best season as a pro. Even if Joseph beats him out as starter, he's good depth at a position where depth is often needed. Unless Wright develops into a better corner than Brown and Lewis, we need both of them.

I’m happy with Diggs and Joseph outside and Brown switching between slot and outside

He messed up bad in one game and played pretty well for the rest of the season. All some folks remember is the one terrible game.

Why not see if they are agreeable to a lesser contract? With as many different defensive packages as NFL defenses use, and with the NFL being so pass heavy, a team can use as many DBs that can play as possible.

The entire idea has to be a result from days of constipation. He says it will save 5M. Yeah, minus what you resign him for. What are they saving? It's only 5M if they cut him outright.

At worst, Brown is our safety net at CB if others don't perform as expected or get injured. He's not great, by any means, but useful, no doubt.

I dont get it.

I thought he played better this past season than any other in his career.

They gave him a 20 million dollar deal based on worse seasons, he has his best one after getting paid (an extreme rarity around here)....and now they want to cut him.

Why? Because they blew it. Ezekiel Elliott collects 12.4 million whether he is on the team or not, and Anthony Brown has to take a pay cut from 5m or be gone?

Something is wrong with the world.
