Kiper Mock 2.0 3/1/22

Green would be the choice.
I don't have what seems to be Karlaftis hate like most here but Green is better without a doubt and for the life of me I don't know how he has left him out of the first round.

Why the hell would the Cowboys want to draft a player in the first round so that Micah can play more linebacker? Who phases out their young elite pass rusher?

Where did most of Micah’s sacks come from this year? It’s easier to game plan against a stationary DE than it is a LB.

I like the pick, especially at 24, though maybe not for the reasons Mel cites. You're basically getting a younger, cheaper replacement for DLaw. That contract has to go, if not this year, then next. He might lack ideal length and bend, but he plays with great power, has violent hands and surprising speed. Factoring in position value, I think he's probably a better prospect than Green, which is why most having going earlier.

Karlaftis has actually been really productive on a per game basis relative to the number of games he's played:

Karlaftis (26 games)
14 sacks (.54 sacks per game)
29 TFL (1.1 TFL per game)

Thibodeaux (30 games)
19 sacks (.63 sacks per game)
35.5 TFL (1.18 TFL per game)

Hutchinson (36 games)
17.5 sacks (.49 sacks per game)
27.5 TFL (.76 TFL per game)

The problem is, Gregory is likely to go as opposed to Lawrence.

So then you have two DE who are stout against the run but not great rushing the passer.

I’m not sure I agree with that assumption.

As opposed to what? The freakish pass rush talent of Randy Gregory?

At least Lawrence has actually been a productive pass rusher at some point in his career.

Yeah, he once was in 2018. We are still paying him like one.

I like Tank. This wasn't a bash Tank post. It was more of a I would prefer a guy like Ebitekke as opposed to Karlaftis

Which would be a career year for Randy Gregory.

He can never reach his ceiling if he never plays in a full season. Has to keep to "potential" there lol

I don't like Lawrence at all. I'm simply pointing out that if you kept Gregory instead of Lawrence instead of the other way around it doesn't make you any stronger pass rushing. Probably weaker in fact.

If Dak Prescott didn't exist Randy Gregory would be the most overrated player I've ever seen here. Dude has backup level stats and people act like he's Myles Garrett.

His ceiling is about a 5-8 sack a season guy. He’s not going to put up massive sacks. More so what I’m getting at

Gotcha.
My thinking is that they HAVE to get out of Lawrence’s deal.

Would you be OK with letting both go? I would.

Karlaftis is actually a good football player. He's a little stiff coming off the edge, but he has good hand work and can power rush. He wouldn't be a bad selection at all.

i like the player but not over kenyon green or zion johnson.
but i think karlaftis will be long gone by 24.
good player.
love his size.
