When we start looking at the WR position in this year's draft, I see many are projecting the so called, undersized slot receiver types. Can you remember the team using a high pick on any receiver under 6 feet over the last 20 years? I cannot think of one. They have a distinct prototype for the position. Just look at our current receivers:

Lamb-6'2
Cooper-6'1
Gallup-6'1
Wilson-6'2
Turner-6'2
Fehoko-6'4

I would rule out any undersized receiver in this class and look at the ones over 6 foot 1.

You can’t take a small, shifty guy if you’re losing Coop.

Receiver will be 6’1+ and capable of playing outside

Who’s “projecting using a high pick” on an undersized receiver? Oh, that’s right, nobody. This is a Strawman argument.

And as for the “Cowboys prototype”, how’d that work out when it mattered most?

I agree, they will be looking more for a big, outside receiver.

Yeah, and that would make the most sense. Lamb played almost exclusively out of the slot as a rookie.

I honestly think they believe Gallup will be ready Week 1 (I’m skeptical), and I believe they’ll bring back Wilson. They’ll need to add to that group one way or the other and especially on the outside.

I also can’t put it past them to think we’ll be fine trotting out Lamb, Wilson, and M. Turner Week 1 either.

The team has a history of not being able to self-evaluate the roster to its own detriment.

Lamb, Wilson, and Tuner wouldn’t be so bad if we were in another offense. It won’t work throwing the ball 35 times per game though.

I think Turner can play a role going forward, and should be pretty cheap to re-sign, our top quality in a free agent.

And they’ve kept a rather large number of receivers around in the practice squad. I think in anticipation of this day coming.

- Most of the time, McClay likes and prefers length - whether WR or CB.

- The only time i can remember the Cowboys going all out for smurf like 5'9 - 5'8 WRs are Cole Beasley, Tavon Austin and Ryan Switzer.
Beasley of course made huge impression coming in as an undrafted rookie and beating every CB in camp.

- Switzer was dubbed to be Beasley- like. but seen as a better punt returner. Proved more of a headcase diva than what Cowboys could take.

- Austin was a ex-1st rd pick via Rams, and was seen as a phenom returner, who could be a possible slot, gimmick guy. Proved injury prone, ball security issues
and wasn't reliable.

Supposedly they are high on Brandon Smith (practice squad) and Vashar,( IR) .. ..

After seeing Turner sparingly he looks like a player. His body type is actually a lot like Deebo. Thick lower body and fast. He could be fun as a weapon if we had some imagination

The way things are going I would not be surprised if we drafted Olave Ohio State with our first pick. He is just a step down from Amari. The guy is Smooth Operator.

Dak does prefer route runners over big, athletic types. Olave is a very good fit for this offense.

All those small receivers were considered slot only that could help out the ST units as well. I just cannot see the team replacing Cooper's spot on a smallish slot receiver. What we have seen under Dak is that he prefers strong route runners that have a large catch radius.

I think they will protect themselves and draft another, future starter at the position. Outside of that one disaster yr, they have always prioritized the position. I am fully expecting a WR to be drafted sometime within the 1st 2 days of the draft.

Just look at their recent history, X receivers always possess elite size-TO, Dez, Amari, etc.

- If they retain Ceddy Wilson, he's probably the best slot guy we'd have.
In fact his best work is more in the slot than it is outside.

- And remember that Dak worked extremely well when smallish Beasley was here, but we've haven't had anyone on his level since he's departed.
I think it's more about route running, but it depends who is the smallish slot guy - he'd have to to be exceptional.

- And they pursued Tavon Austin to be the new Beasley, but he had limited receiving skills and catch radius, and prone to injury and drops.

I’d bring in Adam Humphries

Zuriel Smith and Skyler Green were 5'10 or shorter when drafted, but that was when Parcells was in charge. They do tend to prefer larger receivers.
