It takes more than talent to win a Super Bowl

The penalties were like a flashing red warning light.
The worst part of that was when McCarthy (after the San Fran loss with the most penalties in the playoff game ever) said he would fix it in the off-season.

That is grounds to be fired right there for me.

Using the military as an example. Imagine getting your platoon killed and telling you CO after the fact, Ill fix the problem before the next mission.

How does that conversation go?

It was such a joke.

McClay nor McCarthy was aware of the trade for Lance until after it happened.

Jerry said that himself. He locked himself in a room and made that absolutely boneheaded trade himself.

That right there tells me, McClay may be the GM when it comes to the draft, but when it comes to ALL football decisions like an actual GM. That just isn't the case in Dallas.
I never understood why some think he is the actual GM? With Jerry as the owner, not a chance in hell is he the actual GM.

Yeah, this is Jerry’s biggest problem. He thinks he knows better than the football people and being the narcissist that he is, has to try and show it. But McClay does 95% of the GM duties if not more.

You are probably right, however, a real GM wouldnt let Jerry take guys like Trysten Hill, Jaylon Smith, Luke Schoonmaker, in the second round.

It is clear it was the Philthy D that won that game
KC's D was not good enough to win the game by itself and that is what it would have taken. KC could do virtually nothing on O as the Philthy D Line ate the KC O line up and spit them out;
This game was very much like the last Time KC lost a SB to a superb Tampa Bay D line that ate up the KC O line and neutered Mahones
And yet Jerry wants to get these difference making DTs late in the draft and from cheap FAs. Year after year after year, the teams w/ good/great DT's(3/4DE's) are in the super bowl, and there we are ignoring them in the draft and taking injured Cbs instead.

I swear some of you don’t read the OP.
I did. And my comment refers to it. The talent has to be there, and then you have to play together as a team.

What about my post makes you think I didn't read the OP?

True , just talent alone wont get you winning the SB , team balance and good coaching and elite QB , will help but there is an element of luck is also involved. Some of the uber talented teams with great QBs have not been able to overcome the hurdle.

thats why its surprising nowadays to see the same team compering in SB year after year, because of FA the windows are limited to span of 2-3 years for maximizing and win. Hats off to Brady led Pats and Mahomes led KC team to pull off multiple SBs.

Schotty has started promisingly, if we can get the run game going ( & stop run) that will help our offense immensely as we better when we play with lead. If Eberflus can bring a little bit of defensive improvement, that will make this team competitive and if they start winning against difficult opponents, confidence will grow , that really helps in the palyoffs.
And what did Brady and Mahomes have in common? Great D's w/ interior disruptive presences. Mahomes didn't win a super bowl until KC built up the D. Brady won super bowls because of great D's.

Thing is, the better your QB the less you need on O. Which makes it much easier to win super bowls as you can then spend your resources on the D.

I never got that either, especially when Jerry proclaims himself that all decisions go through him.

Of course it takes more than talent to win a SB. That’s no revelation. This the reason why all the complaints about JJ and his puppet coaches. And why most objective fans feel negative and disillusioned with this FO no matter what hand puppets they pick.

Focus and commitment must start at the very top and this is. by far, the greatest issue confronting this franchise for the past 30 years.

The position of GM simply cannot be a part-time job. It cannot be the 3rd or 4th priority for the man responsible for making the most important decisions for the team.

If the most important decision maker can split time doing other work unrelated to football, then why shouldn't players feel as though they can dedicate significant time and effort towards a side-career as an internet influencer or aspiring rap singer or reality star?

Any manager that wants particular behaviors from his staff must model those behaviors. It is only important to them if a manager demonstrate that it is important to them. The most destructive behavior any manager can adopt is hypocrisy.

100% agree with the premise. Chemistry doesn't come from the coach though. It develops organically. Starting with the veteran leaders.

The Florida Panthers, who won the Stanley Cup last night are a great example of a team whose sum is greater than its parts.
I'm not sure if the Cowboys have the ability to do what the Panthers did this year.

Pick up key free agents who have playing ability and the right stuff to manage their unit. Great players throughout the lineup. Centers, wingers, defence and goal.

I haven't seen a Brad Marchand type of player on the Cowboys in a long time. Vet FA who was paid good money, gave up a good draft choice, but elevated the younger players on the third line to be major contributors. Set the locker room tone, and re-established the overall player locker room culture to a point where he has become a bit of a meme with the rubber rats.

I guese we could wish this would happen with the Cowboys.

Winning a SB comes down to great coaching and great players having the desire to be the best. That’s how dynasties are built.

Then he's not the GM.
lol...if some posters want to think that he was the GM, well, that would tell why the Cowboys suck for so long.

I would not brag about him being the GM, Jerra is the GM, that is why the team sucks.

Jerra is not going to like someone saying he is not the GM.
