Cincinnati with a rookie qb has been to the sb more than us over the last 25 years
the majority of NFL players are younger than our last sb appearance
Jerry made us sit thru Garrett for 10 years so he could coach the team from the owners box
our head coach is MM. Our OC is in training and with a HC that refuses to help him
we had 2 good HC's that knew how to win. Jerry got rid of both of them because praise was drifting to them.
we led the league in penalties or sloppy play. Our HC didnt realize that till playoff loss
next year will be the same.

what do the fans have to be optimistic about

I whole heartedly agree.

We were a playoff team that won 12 games last season.

They have done nothing / rumors saying they will do nothing to improve. You’re losing Cooper and Lawrence, which is fine barring their contracts. But we have no action to replace these guys.

You have a tier 2 QB who is between 8-14 in the league. He had a decent year, not great and was trending down last season.

Now you’re telling me he’s likely losing Cooper, Gallup, Wilson and Turner. Schultz is solid but he and Lamb cannot carry the team.

You also just cannot build an entire team through the draft and hope all 7 picks can start week one.

So yes. Not all of us are doom and gloom. But I see zero reason for ANY fan to be optimistic about the season pre free agency and pre draft. A lot can change by April … but I’m not counting on much change. Just more selling how Will McClay nailed all 7 picks and the future is bright
Tough to expect mid round picks to start in year one, but if this 'draft only' strategy is to work, we have a load of those types from last year who will need to take that second year leap....big time.

Joseph, Golston, Wright, OO, Ball, Bohanna, Cox, Farinok......

If several of them can step it up we will be ok......and that's really gotta be the hope, because getting two immediate contributors in this draft is as good as its gonna get.

last year was the year we were supposed to do something and it seemed like things were lining up for the cowboys and yet we get beat up and knocked out of the first round of the playoffs. This year, we're going to lose a lot of significant talent, so how is the team getting better? The bargain bin shopping is going to turn off a LOT of fans. There needs to be some electricity. We just saw teams like the Rams load up or Tampa Bay before them. At least the Broncos have something to look forward to with getting Russell Wilson. On the other hand, we are losing our number 1 receiver, probably Cedric Wilson as well. Might lose Randy Gregory... what are we going to do with the 'salary cap savings'?

Not trying to hijack the thread but these are the consequences people were mentioning when considering signing Dak to that huge contract. The collapse is happening pretty quickly huh?
All of the elite QB's will soon be on second contracts.

Chiefs already restructured Mahomes once to lower his cap hit. His cap hit is $35 million this year and $46 next. Broncos are paying $24 and $27 for Russ.

Dak's contract IS NOT the problem. It's the junk contracts structured around his that causes the issues (Lawrence, Cooper, Zeke). When you lose these 3 bloated contracts a lot of cap will open up.

The organization doesn't deserve any trust or goodwill. That's fair given what we have seen over an extended period of time.

However, it does crack me up that this board was filled with people who supported these signings but now say management is horrible for giving out those deals.
Not filled. Very few people supported those signings at those prices.

This fan base has been just as down on the team off and on for the last 25 years. I don't think this year is any different. Nothing will change.

that contract has zero to do with this collapse........I am not saying Dak is any good or bad or discuss where he ranks. but last year his cap hit was 17M. they are reducing his cap hit again this year. so its the incompetence of how they manage everything in general.

Let me count the reasons:

1. We're paying a middle of the pack QB top 5 money and we're stuck for a few years.
2. We're overpaying a RB that is washed.
3. We have a head coach that is not good at his job and is just a place holder.
4. We are losing Cooper, our All-Pro punter, a break out WR, and who knows who else?
5. We used or franchise tag on a TE that can't block and is not good enough to earn whatever he makes from that tag.
6. We're probably going to sign Gregory to deal that he 100% does not deserve because "we like our guys".
7. We have an offensive coordinator that doesn't seem fit for his job.
8. We have an inept FO that has no clue how to build a winning team and it seems more so everyday that the team will be left into even worse hands when Jerry is no longer in charge.
9. Our priority signing seems to be focused on a WR that is coming off an ACL tear and won't even be ready for the start of the season.
10. Basically we are going to be a less talented, a year older, and another year of wear a tear version of last years disappointing team that couldn't compete anytime they faced a good team.

I'm sure I'm missing some things.

I was watching a draft chat with Helman and Cavanaugh last night, they both said this is the most frustrated they’ve seen Cowboys fans in their time covering the team. That something feels different about the mood of the fanbase right now. Do you agree?

I certainly agree. How can we not be? They wasted a golden opportunity this past season. And now they have to gut the team because of poor cap management.

Who wouldn’t be frustrated?

He wasn't here during the Lacewell era. I would say more resigned to mediocrity than frustrated.

Gregory will take all the faith an goodwill and cash they give him with a new contract and completely tank knowing his future to smoke weed is set no matter how he plays

Yes! I’ll tell you why. I’ve been a fan since the 70s and there are always “stages.” I went through a mostly Super Bowl or bust stage 70s through mid 90s; then there was some rebuild where you were excited about where it was going because of a newness; then there is a Romo stage where you feel you are close; then there is a Garrett phase where there are ups and downs but each year presented things like Tony v Dak. I feel like this is the first time where I feel STAGNANT. Where the Jones boys have had the curtain pulled back more than ever. Yes we’ve known their faults fr 25-30 years but now there is so much repetition to them that it’s depressing. I feel like there is an emptiness because you know they aren’t changing.
