Are you ok with throwing away 2022 to get Payton and clear cap for 23?

They've thrown away 26 years, what's one more? I would personally have a problem with it, because this organization has proven that they can't build a championship caliber team. So, throwing away one year in hopes that brings you a better team, is not the way to go. I'd don't trust these idiots to get it right.

Seems like that’s what Stephen is doing. Jerry wants Sean and wants to make it the most attractive situation possible for him. Wouldn’t be surprised if players who get injured shut it down early to improve draft stock also next year.

I feel bad for McCarthy. 2020 was decimated by injuries and 2022 the team is organically tanking. He had his 1 shot last year and that will be it.

How can you feel bad for MM? I feel bad for us fans the team choked in the playoffs and MM had a lot to do with that. He should have been fired along with Moore.

2022 will be rinse a repeat no matter what we do

Payton is unlikely next year. He will probably get an analyst job. Once you get used to the easy well paid life of an analyst it’s tough to go back

It's going to be a down year anyway, no need to actively try to throw it away....look at the history of the last 20 years of the nfce and the cowboys, no back to back winner and rarely do the cowboys have back to back success.

2022 is going to be a 7-10 type of season

There is a better chance then Payton is not the coach in “23 then he will be. You still have to give the Saints draft compensation. Cap Boy Stephen is not doing that.

no. tell me why payton is so great and how he is going to make a difference? he has as many superbowls as MM. he did it with a HOF QB. tell me the difference?

this is not an endorsement of MM. its just that I don't see the difference between the two. except one of them is more likable.

In general I agree. I'm on the fence as to how much better he is than mm based on history. One argument would be sp won 9 games without Michael Thomas using Winston, hill, siemien and book. I was underwhelmed with mm not stepping in at the end of the year to fix the offense since that's his strength.

Yes, Jerry has been playing the long game for 27 years .

Sometimes the correct answer is the most obvious…this off-season is just a further example of the incompetence displayed by the front office for decades.

Why do people assume Sean wants Jerry?

IF Payton decides to coach again the Cowboys will not be his only option. What's so attractive about being Jerry's next muppet?

You might be on to something except I dont agree the Cowboys are punting on this season. The NFC East is so weak that the Cowboys should still be the clear favorite to make the playoffs.

I think you're right on that they're trying to set themselves up if they're one and done again in the playoffs (or worse). Makes it easier to fire MM and they're not as hamstrung with the cap if the new coach wants to make moves.

Jerry is going to be 80 in October. You’re out of your mind if you think he’s going to just have a rebuild season.

Either way.......be committed. If the plan is tanking in 2022....then you fire sale everything for future picks....now.

Sure, full rebuild but Zeke and Lawrence need to be shown the door or I'm not convinced.

William Shatner is 90......and he's gonna live to be a 100. You got 20 more years of Jerry calling the shots. As long as these 20 somethings keep banging him...he's got a lot to live for.

No way would I throw away a season to get a burned out HC. It would lead to more bad seasons having to trade away premium draft picks to sign him.

We are throwing away a season for a coach who has the same amount of SB titles as the current coach?

It's not what we're doing. We don't plan like that. Sorry, it may be comforting to think there is a grand vision, but there isn't.

Tanking may not be the right word as they’re not trying to get the No. 1 pick. But they are doing everything to make sure 2023 is best set up for success even if it costs them 2022.

Play for long term success.

The cheap players who overperformed their contracts are leaving - or now overpaid like Schultz. The expensive players who underperformed are just a bad investment, and will no longer have the cheap overperformers to make up some of the slack.

We were going to get worse on the field. I'm glad they're not digging our cap hole even deeper too.

This is why I don’t understand begging to hang on to Tyron. He always missed 4-5 games a year and this year his play fell off at the end of the year as a result of all those injuries throughout the season.

I’d have moved on from him before Amari
