He used 3 Safeties (Big Nickel) on ~40% of snaps in 2021.

He also converted Safety K. Neal to a LB.
  • Some Snap Count Examples:
  • Game 8
    • Kearse 100%
    • Wilson 45%
    • Kazee 55%
    • Hooker 42%
  • Total 242%
  • Game 9
    • Kearse 72%
    • Wilson 94%
    • Kazee 48%
    • Hooker 33%
  • Total 247%
  • Game 11
    • Kearse 99%
    • Wilson DNP
    • Kazee 100%
    • Hooker 59%
  • Total 258%
Mukuamu & PS Safeties Thompson and Coyle also played a few snaps during the season.

Is it possible the Kazee/Hooker split was because Hooker wasn’t 100% healthy coming off the achillies? Is it in Quinn’s history to rotate his S’s?

Either way we definitely need depth at minimum. Kearse is pretty much his own unique position as the 3rd S/LB in nickel. That leaves Hooker, Wilson, and Mukuamu as the only true S’s on the roster….not great.

He likes bringing S's down to LB in subs. He did it with Neal in Atlanta, and did it with Kearse. If Wilson didn't get hurt again both he and Kearse probably would be been in on 70%+ of snaps.

The usage of S's all around was high. I wonder if some of that was that he felt he had better depth and experience at S than CB. Wright was our #4 CB and very green

I like the idea of sitting Hooker on run downs. Injuries have been his issue his whole career, and doing that limits his exposure. Wilson can play the weak side on run downs with Kearse at SS

Nickel CB Lewis averaged about 70% of snaps which leaves 30% available for a Safety or 3rd LB.
- They rarely played all 3 of Parsons, Neal and LVE together unless Parsons played DE.

The combination of Diggs, Brown and Joseph added up to about 2 CBs playing 100%.

The combination of LVE and Neal added up to slightly more than 1 LB playing 100% of the snaps.

On snaps when Parsons played DE, if only 1 of LVE or Neal were on the field, then both NCB Lewis and a 3rd Safety could have been on the field.

Is Hooker the starting FS or does Wilson also get snaps there is they re-sign Kearse?

Without Kearse, is it FS=Hooker and SS=Wilson?

My guess is Kearse is probably going to taking up alot of Neal's snaps. My guess is alot of Nickle and Dimes you will see Kearse at "LB" with Wilson at SS. Some other Nickels and Dimes you could see Kearse at SS. Different skills sets. Wilson has some CB experience in college and can do more in man coverage, whereas Kearse is more of a rover. Really all depends on the looks they want to give, where they want to play Parsons on a particular down, and how/if they want to use other LB's like Cox and LVE.

Wilson at FS in any 4-3-4 look is a decent run package that can still cover PA

D Line- DLaw-Gallimore-Owa-Parsons

LB- LVE

LB/S- Kearse

CB- Diggs, Brown, Lewis

FS- Hooker

SS- Wilson

Thats the D alignment I want to see roughly 65% of the time.

Hooker comes off the field when Parsons shifts to LB in short yardage/early down.

Wilson comes off the field for Joseph in 4 WR sets

(obviously normal rest/rotation happens)

Might see Cox instead of LVE in obvious pass situations. But thats dependent on Cox

Not certain.

2 35%
3 33%
4 40%
5 48%
6 28%
7 62%
8 42%
9 33%
10 28%
11 59%
12 37%
13 27%
14 51%
15 DNP
16 45%
17 72% (Kearse didn't play in this one)

Yes, if Kearse returns, then I can see Jabril Cox replacing the Neal coverage LB role.

If Kearse does not return, then I could see Jabril getting some of the snaps that Kearse played in the box.

In college, Jabril Cox was better in coverage than many college Strong Safeties.

I see Hooker as the starting FS, as they probably won't re-sign Kazee. Kearse really needs to be re-signed because Dono is hurt a lot, and he's just doesn't have the size n skill set #27 brings.

I'm probably higher on Tyler Coyle than most, but I have him ahead of Mukuamu right now. I think Mukuamu is a CB they are masquerading at FS.

You do know izzy and Kearse are the basically the same size right? And izzy has played safety in college. Just FYI

And how can you be higher on a guy who never even made a play in a cowboy uniform before? You be on here playing games lol

There are a lot of LB/SS hybrids in upcoming draft.

Izzy tackles like a CB, so he's a CB. It's not about size It's about toughness and tackling Moreno at SS. I've watch Mukuamu in college plenty FYI and I like him better at CB.

I can be higher on a guy because it's my preference not yours. Coyle is a true Safety that's why I like him more plus he showed preseason promise haha.

We will see my guy

Any chance we trade up with the Jets for the S from Notre Dame? They could use the extra picks. I know I know, I got a better chance at having drinks with Sasquatch on my backyard patio.
