This something I would like to see him level up.

Be more of a tenacious fighter when it comes to blocking. If he could establish a reputation as a fierce blocker I think he would get more opportunities and have even more separation.

Right now I think everyone is looking at him like he is tipping off pass, and if it is a run play by Dallas you have a ragdoll in front of you blocking.
Oh I'm sure he would be willing to fight if he could GET to his man more often.

He is a whiffer. People tend to not notice that as much as they know one point for every catch.

When Zeke falls down for minus two, blame Zeke...doesn't matter if Schultz' man ran right past him to make the play.

He's got 10.5 million guaranteed now for 1 year

Hopefully he plays on it. Take the cap hit. It's money thrown out the window.

He's not gonna morph in kelcie or Gronk. He's the new Philly Special whereas Jarwin was the Giant killer. LMAO

A long term deal will only make things WORSE

Worse Worse Worse

Jerry's gonna throw a 30 million dollar contract at him and no playoffs. Just like he paid the Giant killer. LMAO
You're one of the very few that gets it with this guy.

There's like an 80% shot he goes into camp as the second best TE we have.

Guys usually wait out the tag. He ran for it and I'm surprised it took him that long.

the last thing I want is for Schulz to get a long term deal with us. He’s just not good enough. They should never have franchised him. You can get a player in rds 3-5 in the draft this year who can give you what Schulz can

I can live with a one year deal but no long term deal
I don’t understand you guys. Yes, everyone wants a superstar TE who plays like a WR and blocks like a tackle….those guys don’t exist. Shultz produced big this year in first down catches and TDs.

78 catches - 808 yards - 8 TDs - 10.4 avg — 2021

Jason Witten, future Hall of Famer, played 17 years in the NFL
  • More than 78 catches 6 times
  • More than 808 yards 8 times
  • More than 8 TDs only once
Dalton Schultz is no Witten, not a Hall of Famer. But his production as the full time starter deserves more respect. Jay Novacek was a pretty good, respected “receiving” TE who never matched those stats even once in his 7 years with the Cowboys.

Dallas can still sign anyone they want, and Schultz is definitely worth that one year salary as we would miss him more than Cooper. We may sign him to a longer contract, or we will draft a TE in hopes someone will show great promise and make this a one year thing. The true FREAK TEs are more rare than elite QBs. Fans should be happy that we have a productive TE who gets open and has excellent hands.

he's a 4-5 million dollar te max.

Cook played for 5 million and he had 9 tds and 7 tds before going to the sorry chargers.
They weren't take what the defense ya checkdown passes against rest your starters eagles either.

That's not what the market says about his value. Cook is 34 years old beyond his prime years, while Schultz is in his prime years. Also keep in mind Cook signed a 7 million a year deal in free agency in 2013. That was probably a top 5 TE contract around that time. Cook had caught 8 TDs and 1700 receiving yards at that time. Today with inflation of the cap do you know what that would be the equivalent of?

12+ million a season just based on cap increases alone.

NFC Least
4 Tds against Philly
1 TD against WFT
1 TD against the giants

1 TD against the Raiders
1 TD against Carolina

8 tds in 2022
4 Tds in 2021

I don't think it's about the stats. But we have to consider the defensive competition and teams where that Production came from.

Look at all the talent around him drawing coverage away from him. And the role he played.

He was virtually the 5th best receiver on every play.

Keep in mind he played almost 1000 snaps and every passing snap each of the last 2 years.

He made very little impact in the W/L column .

Take out all of his scoring Production and we prolly still win all of those NFC East Games anyways

Is he better than Cook, Howard, or any other 4-5 million dollar fa tes that are more athletic that can go up and get a ball.

I really don't think so

If Philly doesn't lay and egg or rest their players were looking at about a 4 TD a year te for 2 straight years who is playing every passing snap

I think cook and howard coulda got 10-12 tds in this division w the talent we had around Schultz

I wouldn't pay him more than them and certainly not more than Gronk

Who would rather have
Gronk,
Cook,
Howard
Hooper
Everett
Etc
Etc
Etc

Over Schultz for 10-11 million.

Only some owner that likes paying the players they pick.

Cheers to watching Schultz and his practice squad backup run this 12/11 personnel passing scheme next year!!!

Better hope Philly, skins, and the giants don't pick up a good LB or we may have a 10 million dollar 2 TD a year te. Js

Don't know why he took this long to sign the tag ---like Schultz had a line of other teams clamoring for his skills. I would have put the non-exclusive tag on him.
(Correction on my post welcomed if that actually was the decision.)
You’re right. You don’t know. And there’s a reason you don’t know.

Not sure he was worth it but seemed we needed to do something. Like Jarwin or not his injury was bad enough to have him likely retire. That’s why when he came back they didn’t use him and go back to using the 10 or 11 (not sure which, I think it was 11 with 2 TE) personnel again. It’s what we used during the winning streak, after he was injured in the vikings game we quit using it. I don’t think that’s the reason our play fell off but we quit using the formation that was very successful. We got Sprinkle back so I hope he improves. We will continue to look for another.

I guess I have less of a problem with Shultz deal. His deal makes him the 7th highest paid and yet was 3rd in the NFL in terms of receptions. I agree not great as a blocker which is curious considering he was viewed as more a blocking TE than a receiving TE. I would add outside of Jarwin who has constantly been injured Shultz has been pretty much injury free. Meantime Dallas is looking to sign him as opposed to leaving the tag on him.

Gronk won't leave Brady
Cook is 35 next month (Unsigned)
Howard is not a #1 TE (Dawson Knox)
Hooper best game last season was 53 yards (Geoff Swaim)
Schultz had 8 TDs last season. Everett has 8 career TDs in 4 seasons. (Noah Fant)

Outside of Gronk, those guys are solid #2 options. Hence why they are all signed with teams that have other TE's to help carry the load or in Hooper's situation, Geoff Swaim is the blocking TE.

Exactly. While Buffalo gets a steal in OJ Howard for a little over 3 million, we’re paying Dalton Schultz three times as much?
Going to be easy for Howard to produce behind Knox. Big difference from being the #1

From a roster perspective, I'm thrilled to retain Schulz. He's consistent, reliable, all the things I need. Above Average TE IMO.

From a Cap allocation, I don't like his $10M/year hit. It's not a big deal, especially after cleaning house, but I'd just prefer him to be more in the $7M range. I feel like he's the Kearse of our Offense. He's not a spectacular pro bowler, but he doesn't make a ton of mistakes and is reliably there to make the play a good starter should make.

.....and to think, O.J. Howard signed for a measly $3.5 Mil deal with Buffalo. I would have gone after this guy for more reasons than one.

Consider this.....

It's 2nd and 9-11 largely because Schultz couldn't get a hat on his man on the 1st down run.

Its now an obvious pass, and the defense knows it. All real threats are accounted for, so when Dak doesn't see anyone wide open he panics down to Schultz, who like Witten at the end of his career, can be left semi unaccounted for because a LB can get to him quickly.

In effect, the defense takes the 3rd and 6-7....

But Mr Schultz hit a ding ding fantasy point with his check down catch that HE created the need for.

This argument is tempting me to go back and document exactly how many times that happened in 2021 alone.

OJ Howard numbers not near as good and has spent more time on injury list than on the field
