Rebuild the offensive line

It's time to rebuild the oline. Tyron Smith is a great player, but he misses a couple games a season of late. Connor Williams was a penalty machine, and I'm glad he's gone but we haven't got much behind there, save for maybe Connor McGovern. Our C is pretty good, but an upgrade there wouldn't hurt. Zach Martin is the most consistent player on the oline. Steele is a good RT, but we haven't got much behind him. I think we need OT, and a LG in this draft as the most pressing needs on our oline.

Furthermore, what good is having an elite group of WRs if Dak hasn't got much time to find them and Zeke doesn't have holes to run through. What good is running the ball when it seems a lot of the time, we are getting called back for holding? I think it's time as Cowboys fans to face reality that our oline is not as good as it once was and it's weakening. As for those that want a different QB, you still need an oline to make that work. Plus, with where we are picking, oline is usually a safe choice, and we need online.

The rebuilding of the OL has already begun, we know we are going to have two new starters at RT & LG and could upgrade Center if the right player falls to them. Add in Tyron is starting to decline, LT is a huge future need. MM and Philbin have had success with developing late drafted lineman, doesn't mean they have to force a pick early on.

True, though you know the olineman I want in round 1.

I wanted Penning bad this draft. But that seems like a farfetched idea now after the combine.

Good year for LTs, potentially, if we had a higher pick. Seems like there's some D-2 guys and projects that could develop but for me I rather not spend a high pick on a developmental LT, or you could be like Miami with Austin Jackson.

Also, not a huge fan of a guard in the first, and yea I know Martin was an excellent pick in 2014.

Going to be interesting on how the draft falls to 24.

We may not have to. There's a guard from Memphis I like who should be available in round 3 that I like a lot. I'm angling for the OT from Central Michigan in round 1 and the guard from Memphis in round 3. Doing this fixes the left side of the oline. I wonder if we could get a 1st for Tyron? If we could, we could he able to move up for Penning.

I really like Penning as well, but he appears to be going much higher now. I'm still on the Green train, he reminds me of Ronald Leary and would upgrade the position in a hurry.

I don't usually watch Mick's shots but it was pretty good this morning. Mickey was saying do we really need to take a guard in round one and Everson and Bill both laughed at him and mentioned CWIll. Everson didn't specify what position but said our OL needed to get better.

Just so I can understand this before I respond, was it Mickey that was questioning the need to take oline in round one or was he suggesting it?

OL is the heavy favorite for the 24 pick.

Mickey was asking if they really needed to draft a guard in round one. Bill Jones said if he graded out as good or better than Zack Martin who we took at 17 would he be worth a pick at 24? Mickey said do we really need all first round picks on the OL, Bill said our two first round picks are both 30 years old in other words getting to the end of their careers. Everson Walls said all I know is WR doesn't matter if they don't have time to get open, our five offensive lineman had trouble blocking four defensive lineman. The whole video is a little long but pretty good, I posted it in the draft zone.

That's about what I expected from Mickey, I just wanted to check. Yeah, more reasons that Mickey routinely makes himself look like a moron.

Same for me about Penning. I would start him at RT and eventually move him to LT. But as you stated, probably a pipe dream now.

I think they will go OG in the first (even if it means they draft an OT they project to OG). If Linderbaum falls they might go him.
I think if they don't get a C in the first they will later with someone like Parham or Fortner later.

I think they may got OT later but would not be shocked if they think they have one in Ball already.

Parham would be my 3rd round pick and my 1st round pick would be the tackle from Central Michigan. I think this would expedite the rebuilding of our line.
