Clarence Hill: Look for the Cowboys to draft a WR in the 1st or 2nd round

I'm not saying wasting another 1st rd pick at the position, but more so on day 2, hopefully at 88 over 56.
I think we need our future number 1 tight end in the 3rd round because we need someone to fill that position more then a 3rd receiver. Dak is a conservative thrower of the football who like his tight ends.

I believe they will be able to fill that need early day 3. That's where the TE depth is this yr. Perhaps 1-3 get drafted on day 2, but 7-10 on the final day.

Agree on Ben but even taking production aside I’d take Van 10 times out of 10. Better length and a much more polished route runner.
Ok. Just saying stats and situation don't support Washington not being capable and Jefferson is capable imo

It’s going to go wide receiver, offensive lineman, tight end and pass rusher in some kind I order with first four picks.

I could dream about NT, but it probably be more of an edge. Also, cannot rule out Linebacker if one they like falls in their laps.

Your dream could come true. They were at both Alabama and Georgia pro days looking at the lines. MM and Quinn both saw the workouts in person.

Looking at the Cowboys projected depth chart, they seem set at pass rushers. I wonder if Jones, Georgia/Alabama tackles may be in play more then we fans may think. To be honest the defense is set except for 1 tech.

They may have to go higher if they have a specific one targeted. I think those 4 are coming off in the top 16.

It's not lost on these GM's that the WR contracts are moving at the QB rate and two teams just had to get rid of the two best in their conferences and those WR's are getting 30M and 28M a year.

1st round WR's means they can use that option year before they have to use the tag and that could be significant savings and allow them one more year. And as they learned form GB, tagging one does not always work out.

If I were a GM, I would never have a WR1 under a second contract. #2 like Gallup? Yep and I wouldn't pick WR's beyond day 2 of the draft and I would take one in every draft to keep the pantry stocked.
That's right. It would be nice if the Cowboys got either Olave or Dotson. I would like Dotson in a trade down.

Ridgeway from Arkansas might be a good pick in the low 100's.

I know it's unpopular, but I would rather take a Travis Jones over one of these Edge players and sign another pass rusher via fa.

I would draft Jones over the guards/wide receivers at 24. The board would flip if that happened.

That might be a reach as many project him as a top 40 player.
I think Green and Zion are reaches at 24 as well. There is nothing special about those guys. I am not sure either is better then Conner Williams. Jones is better then any 1 tech we have on our roster. I am with Broaddus when it comes to the guards.

Green is a similar prospect to Ronald Leary. Very powerful run blocker and strong anchor, he has to clean up his technique as a pass protector. Zion is more the finished product of the 2, balanced lineman, but more finesse. Many believe both players can also start at Center and play either Tackle spots in case of injury. If you are going to start rebuilding you line, these type of positional flex players are very valuable. Outside of a top 5 Edge, they should be more valuable then any of those wide receivers.

Leary was a undrafted free agent and the 5th best linemen on the Wall of Dallas 2. I was hoping Green was more of a Martin type, he’s not. Zion is solid but he will never be a pro bowl type or one day be our best offensive linemen. The draft nicks say both Zion and Green our guards only. The reports said at the Senior Bowl Zion was terrible at center.

Leary went undrafted cause of a injury red flag. He wasn't the worse, that was Doug Free. Green has pro bowl potential, Zion would be a very good player day 1.

Both Green and Johnson would be solid picks that fill a need. But in a ideal situation you just don’t want to pick a guard in the 1st.

Is receiver a "huge" need?

Methinks not. Gallup is supposedly well on his way to recovery. Lamb and Brown still on the team. Washington is an experienced receiver who was a second round pick himself, also won the Biletnikoff Award for the best college receiver.
Not to mention Fehoko, and some guys named Vasher and Smith. If those guys aren't any good why are they on the active roster?

Would it be nice to have a first round, highly ranked receiver taken? Sure, but at best receiver is on a par with guard, tackle, defensive tackle and safety as a "need", and imho guard, etc. are greater needs, but I'll concede they're all equal needs if that's a sticking point with anybody...
