Clarence Hill: Look for the Cowboys to draft a WR in the 1st or 2nd round

I'm not a fan of Burks at 24. The only receiver that I would consider at 24 is Olave. I'm hoping that they get lucky again and trade back from 24. A trade back that netted them Linderbaum and one of the guards in the third either Smith or Ingram would work for me. Throw in a receiver in the 2nd either Dotson, Watson, Pickens, Tolbert, or Moore. Then get the te that you need either Woods, Ferguson, or Kolar. I like the way that the draft lines up for the Cowboys.
I think Olave, Wilson, London and Williams age gone by 24.

I would not be surprised to see GB and KC go up for one of them. If it is true that Rodgers knew Adams was probably gone, they made a deal about WR before he signed that contract.

No…we need someone competent that can be a 3.

Dak loves to throw to the TE so our #3 just needs to be someone steady to help move the chains.
Yep, you need your receivers to compliment your QB's abilities. It's like Russell Wilson having no deep threats.

Gallup, Washington, CeeDee is just as good as any deep threat in the league. That run game needs to be the focus.
Washington isn't even guaranteed a roster spot and Gallup is expected to miss the start of the season, they need another wide receiver. They will address the run game, but need to address the whole offense.

I think that you are right. The Packers and Chiefs might fit as trade partners for the Cowboys at 24.

Gallup will miss 3 games at most. It is a 17 game season, players will miss games that’s football. You don’t panic and draft a 3rd receiver high that will be 6th on the team in targets after CeeDee, Gallup, Shultz, Zeke and Pollard. You starting to sound like Cavanaugh.

You need a legitimate third receiver or it makes it easy to take out our other options

The Cowboys had 4 legitimate wide receivers against the 49ers and that made no difference. We needed 4 legitimate offensive lineman.

They basically have 2 quality receivers, with 1 hurt. In the modern game, it's all about the pass, you better have at least 3 receivers who can threaten a defense or the other two can be easily taken away. Same goes with the TE position. More options, makes the passing game easier.
How many quality receivers did the Rams have?

They may have to go higher if they have a specific one targeted. I think those 4 are coming off in the top 16.

It's not lost on these GM's that the WR contracts are moving at the QB rate and two teams just had to get rid of the two best in their conferences and those WR's are getting 30M and 28M a year.

1st round WR's means they can use that option year before they have to use the tag and that could be significant savings and allow them one more year. And as they learned form GB, tagging one does not always work out.

If I were a GM, I would never have a WR1 under a second contract. #2 like Gallup? Yep and I wouldn't pick WR's beyond day 2 of the draft and I would take one in every draft to keep the pantry stocked.

I'm not saying wasting another 1st rd pick at the position, but more so on day 2, hopefully at 88 over 56.

Based on what? When Washington had 80 targets their numbers looked similar. So can you tell me why he's way better?

The fact he had a more productive year in his 2nd season than Washington has ever had and he’s still developing.

Washington's season I'm referring to was in his second year. Not to mention Ben has been trash for about 5 years and can't throw past 20 yards and Washington is a deep threat.

Agree on Ben but even taking production aside I’d take Van 10 times out of 10. Better length and a much more polished route runner.
