Travis Jones over a 2nd tier Edge

I know it's unpopular, but I think drafting Travis Jones over a 2nd tier Edge makes a bigger impact on this defense. Instantly improves our run defense and affects the passing game by collapsing the pocket. We all saw how Chris Jones was a game wrecker in the KC Loss, he has similar potential.

Not saying we don't need another edge rusher, but we can still draft a development player and add a veteran via free agency. They still are a ton of quality pass rushers on the open market that would give more production then a 1st yr prospect at the position.

I predict that Travis Jones will have a better career than Jordan Davis...

In the 1-on-1 drills at the Senior Bowl, it looked like an NFL DT decided to go practice with the local High School team...

He probably killed the draft status of a half dozen OLinemen that were at the Senior Bowl.

He does remind me of Chris Jones, who was a game wrecker against the Cowboys last season.

I think if the team wanted a FA Edge they would've signed on though...I think they're counting on the draft.
I think it could be about price. Remember 2 years ago we got Griffen at a discount around camp. There are several still out there, prices will be coming down and the Cowboys do have the cap space, especially post june 1st.

I'd easily take Travis Jones who is the #2 NT prospect after JDavis, over any #6-#10 DE coming out.

I think Jones would help the team quite a bit more than just another DE.

He would be a great addition, but the Cowboys don’t believe in adding good resources at that position.

I would love adding Williams, Jones and Chenal to this defense, but believe we are just going to get 1 piece this yr as this is going to be an offensive draft class. Question is, either an Edge or a DT. You prefer an Edge, my point is can find a good fa edge rusher and still draft another player later on in the draft. We need both.

Much has been said about Williams's off-field issues but I'm guessing it's not a big deal with the Cowboys. Well maybe big-deal is the wrong wording but I'm pretty sure they've done their homework on the kid and are satisfied. Think about it.......the scouts tells MM and Quinn about the kid but warn them about his off-field issues. What do you think they told their scouts before looking at any reels or anything? Exactly, get to the bottom of the off-field issues. Something we all know, coaches don't like wasting time on players/prospects they know won't be a fit. The fact Quinn personally worked this kid out tells us all we need to know.......they want this kid.

Jones would be an amazing 2nd round pick…highly doubt he lasts that long tho. Depending on how much stock you put on position value he’s probably ranked anywhere from 25-45. MAYBE you could rank Mathis over Jones (I sure wouldn’t), but it’s hard to see a 3rd DT not being drafted between where the 2 Georgia guys go and our 2nd.

Winfrey is more of a pure 3T, where Jones is more of that traditional 0/1.
I know that, Paschal is considered a DE that can play insdie, but they collapse the pocket better than Jones would and have more production doing that.

We haven’t had much luck lately drafting DL from Oklahoma

Agree
I laugh at people saying we can take Jones in rd 3
He’s not even lasting till 56
We should trade up to mid rd 2 if he’s there and take him but we won’t

Probably a top 40 pick, trade up/down candidate.

I have heard that the Cowboys are targeting dogs. Since Garrett left, they are more comfortable taking these type of players. Hell, Parsons probably would not of been taken under him.

Paschal reminds a lot of people of Gholston, more of a run DE that kicks inside in the nickel. Jones is a dominate inside player who destroyed everyone at the senior bowl.

Jones is is a very good NT he will get some double teams and help the LBs run free. Paschal is a much better prospect in terms of getting in backfield and collapsing the pocket He would be similar to Golston but at a higher level. Jones played teams like Yale, UMass, Vanderbelt etc. and had 7.5 TFL, Paschal played inside and out in the SEC and had 15 TFL. Jones is the third DT on NFL.com behind the Georgia guys but they still have Paschal ranked higher.

BPA at the following positions: Guard, Tackle, Center, DE, DT

And then do the same in the 2nd round. I am fine with all of that. I am sure we are all familiar with Jones reaching for 2nd or 3rd tier DE's just to take one in desperation. I still am emotionally scarred from it.

I think becoming good against the run will open up the rest of the defense. Paschal might be better against the pass, but we need to fix our run defense first.
