Parcells mantra with his players was always “do your job”. In Dallas the mantra appears to be “get paid.” The focus is simply not on building a winning culture.

Very hard to develop mental toughness when there is zero accountability in the organization.

Too many egos, too many distractions, too much pride, arrogance, and stubbornness.

Why do cowboys players magically stop becoming weak with the execution when they leave here and go to other organizations and win superbowls? If you hear what some of these former players have to say, it's obvious the culture here isn't serious about winning

The Joneses are at fault, of course, but at some point you need to expect the players to step up and hold each other accountable if coaching and ownership isn't going to do it.

It's easy to get sucked into the "no accountability culture" that has been created in Dallas, but that could change if a few of the supposed "leaders" start taking matters into their own hands.

I think right now, the guys that other players would follow if led are satisfied just collecting paychecks. We need a solid group of leaders that can reverse this mentality. It's going to take guys that produce on the field though, because you can't expect guys to follow you when you're not holding your weight on the field. The only guy I feel could demand that right now is Micah Parsons. He could be a culture changer. He's the only one on the team right now that doesn't seem corrupted by the culture. YET.

Even though I liked the MM hire, I was disappointed in him with his team management. Quinn brought some mental toughness to the defense.....Moore isn't ready to do that. I hope Quinn doesn't get chummy with the players in order to get the Head Coach job next year. MM needs to step up or he may be out at mid season

Remember when the OL did not come to the defense of Andy Dalton in 2020? This year Dallas cut the offensive lineman who stood up to protect Dak in 2021. He will be replaced by one of the offensive linemen who did nothing when Dalton took a cheap shot. Maybe it means nothing, but when the Cowboys were winning Super Bowls they had guys like Larry Allen, Erik Williams and Kevin Gogan on the OL. No one would ever accuse either of those guys of being soft.

Irv and Emmitt are friends and probably doing business with Jerry, so they can't come out and say Jerry and the FO are the problem. Calling the players mentally unfocused and weak is the safe way out, but why do players magically stop being mentally weak when they go elsewhere? Our FO has created an atmosphere where winning isn't priority. Ticket sales and revenue comes first along with a comfortable buddy buddy relationship that the owners must maintain with the coaches, as well as the owners having the ability to do the roles that the GM would do in winning organizations.

I could care less what he or Irvin think because they will not call it what it is and that stems from one man........culture. The culture is conducive to moral victories.

At least Aikman and Johnson get closer to the root of the problem.

And Johnson called it exactly what it is. The GM will not admit to mistakes, his ego will not allow him to admit being wrong and that is the reason after 30 years, he is no better at the job and he's helped raise an excuse maker to take his place.

I do not agree that this team matches others with talent either. I think that is a joke. I saw better talent on LAR, SF, GB and TB in the NFC alone.

Emmitt has been too long from it because he played on a team with talent and a great defense. He also played on a team run by the HC and not the GM.

...I really thought MM would be the guy to open can of Farmers Whoop-***.
But he picked up the Pina Colada instead, during the season.

What we need is a HC who will constantly push the players to achieve better like Jimmy Johnson did, and an owner who will stay the heck out of footballing matters.
Unfortunately that ain't going to happen
Let me just say it...we will not see another sb in most of our lifetime with the Jones family in charge, and it sucks.

Regardless of any particular team sport, the most successful teams adopt the mentality of their head coach or manager completely. Men or women team sports? Does not matter. Fans and media see the personality of the person-in-charge of how well they play, whether it is on a field, court or diamond.

That team identity has been sporadically seen in Dallas over the past 33 years. It was evident during the Jimmy Johnson years. Ditto the Bill Parcells years.

Team identity has been fairly murky outside of those two tenures. Even observers saw Johnson within how well Barry Switzer's teams performed.

There has been one main constant throughout the past three-plus decades. And even if only a hint of it can be claimed as true, it is still there. Thing is, that hint was eclipsed totally or nearly totally during the Johnson and Parcells years but has shined brightly outside those years.

Those standing most closely to that brilliance would have a hard time not constantly bathing in it. Kinda hard expecting players (or coaches for that matter) to exorcise it from their gameday focus, especially when their head coach does not stand as a solid buffer between them and it.

What I see is a sense of having 'made it' once you sign with the cowboys. You don't even have to any games under your belt and you're an instant celebrity with endorsements, blogs, podcasts,
tv/radio appearances etc. It happens with all the teams as well but it's different here.
