Lamb will be the Cowboys number 1 receiver this season. If healthy he will have 90+ catches and over 1200 yards. He will get a top salary when he is a free agent.
Okay?

Who is arguing with you? All I said was that is not that right now. He will have his chance to prove it.

He would've been 9th in yards and tied for 15th in catches last season by your projections. I'm not paying him top WR money for that production. You're going to have to actually be a top WR to get top WR money.

True but none have cracked $30M ( Hill )
None yet lol its all going up each position demanding more money when they see their counterparts,.,only thing is you must be close to elite to get that but that Watson deal has the league owners and Fo people upset to guaranteed a knuckle head 100% of a 230mil deal is open up a can of worms and its started

the Wrs who are considered elite are the first, there will be other players with their hands out. Wait until Lamars deal gets done and Wilson says thank for the trade BUt oh wait i want Watson’s deal..

Its getting ugly all those thinking Zekes deal was bad might want to recheck whats gone on since,,even daks deal is looking good now.

No question, especially considering Chase, Austin, Smith, and Lamb coming down the pipe in a couple of years.

This may have something to do with the FO using another high pick in this draft although we have Lamb and Gallup. In other words, considering four of the top five WRs are making $25M+, we could see some teams recycling the position every 3/4 years. Ask yourself, would you pay Lamb $25-30M in 2 years?

Some of its timing
I think an elite edge rusher is worth more than a WR, and much harder to find, but lots of really good WR hitting the market and not so many edge rushers
It’s certainly not supply and demand lol
The league has a good number of good WR but sure don’t have that many edge rushers
Micah will change those numbers in a few years for sure

Huh?? I am just making a statement. I think Lamb will play well. You don’t have to be a top receiver to get paid like one on the Cowboys. Look at Cooper.

Not just wrs all positions. Tell me a LT isn’t worth more then a WR? If wrs were that important why are so many this off-season being traded its bipolar one teams say no way but another runs in and pays a wr 30mil , stupid IMO? The nfl is changing and not for the good..i dont think the cap can hold up long term they will need to go to softer cap like the NBA or back to no cap..paying 10 guys in your team over 25mil each and qb 50+ i cant see the revenue grows faster then the Sally’s go up with players demands, either owners strut align no or the cap will have to changed.

IMO none should be paid that much but it makes encase that in this order

QB
LT
DE
Center
DT
CB
WR
RB

I mean there are 3-4 or more pass catching targets on every play so how can one that maybe doubled a lot get so much money?

One qb one lt one center etc etc

You said "he will get top salary when he is a FA."

I believe he would get good money, but not "top" money if he puts up the stats you projected. The only team that will pay him elite money with those stats would be Dallas, so you're right there.

Not to make this a Dak thread but let’s just say the Cowboys over pay their own. They gave a one legged gimp a top 5 linebacker salary for heavens sake.

I posted yesterday in a thread about their incompetency and "we like our guys" mentality, basically pointing out how they gave Jaylon Smith a better contract than Bobby Wagner just got.

It will be extremely hard for anyone to become what we see as a #1 WR here with the current QB and OC combo.

Only on these forums would someone claim that the offense that routinely leads the league in yards could not produce a WR who puts up the yards to be in that camp.

Just seems like it's not a very good use of cap space to pay a WR that type of money.

Typically there is 3-5 every year in the draft that can make a big impact while on a rookie contract

Last 5 years:

2017 - Golladay, Kupp, JuJu, M. Williams, Godwin, Pascal
2018 - Chark, Gallup, Kirk, Sutton, Moore, Ridley
2019 - AJ Brown, McLaurin, Metcalf, Deebo
2020 - Jefferson, Lamb, Higgins, Jeudy, Pittman Jr.
2021 - Chase, Waddle, D. Smith, Moore, Bateman

I'm sure I'm missing a couple, plus those WR that have been held back by their QB play, but it's not a position that is really hard to hit on in the draft.

When this became all about the QB, the WR contracts following suit was assumed.

The 5 positions that most affect the passing game, QB-LT-DE-WR-CB, ranking as the top 5 paid just makes sense. Those 5 have always been considered the 6 cornerstones of building a team. The 6th was RB but that has changed.

Deebo, Kupp and Chase are making GMs rethink the WR position. Not devaluing it but reevaluating what they want in a WR. And look at what KC got for Tyreek. LT will always be important but it’s arguable that the WR is second only to the qb right now.

Tougher than you think. These are just the 1st round picks since 2017: https://stathead.com/tiny/149rB

rounds 2 and 3 https://stathead.com/tiny/CgMLf

Well like everyone been saying, it is a passing league now....and so every team wants to have at least one premier WR besides some complementary ones. I don't think you'll see two WR getting paid that much by the same team.
