Remember when he came into the league, loved him with the Oilers and on Tecmo bowl. Seemed like a really cool down-to-earth dude that anyone could talk to. RIP Coach

Good man. His personality really shines during the All Or Nothing season that the Cowboys were in. He was an underrated running back at both Penn State and with the Oilers and Giants. RIP. Far too young to be gone. I hope his family can find comfort in their good memories with him when he was healthy.

You know these coaches come and go with professional teams. We’ve had so many but there’s always some that you just don’t forget. Brown was one of them. He left a impression. I saw this name in the headlines and was hoping it wasn’t the same Gary Brown. Seemed like a guy always smiling and enjoying life. Hate this happened to him and his family but he’s resting now.

I still remember when he came in to replace an injured Lorenzo white for the oilers and rushed for over a 1000 yards in 8 games.

he always seemed so friendly. I hope he’s at peace now.

I am waiting for the first "thoughts and prayers" post.
Thoughts and prayers and $1.50 get me a medium Algerian coffee at the Kwik-E-Mart.

R.I.P. Gary Brown.

There was a time when the Oilers had embarrfessing riches at the RB position, Lorenzo White and Alonzo Highsmith in back to back drafts in the 1st round.1987 and 1988. They also drafted Spencer Tillman in 1987. Prior to that, they drafted Alan Pinkett in 1986.

Gary Brown was an 8th round choice in 1991.

From 1982 to 1984 they drafted an offensive lineman in the 1st round three years in a row. Two of them made the HOF.

The Oilers went to the playoffs seven consecutive seasons but never went pass the division round. ironically, with all that firepower for a running game, Pardee used his old UH offense the "Run and Gun". They employed four WR's. They were successful early in the season but when defenses began to get stingier in the redzone, the Oilers had no answer.

Incidentally, the article mentions that Brown was replaced by a RB coach that was an offensive lineman, Al Johnson. Is this the same Al Johnson drafted by the Cowboys in the 2nd round of 2003, Parcell's first draft? He did zero in teh NFL as a player. Parcells was a great coach but he couldn't draft an offensive lineman to save his life.

Far too young at 52. I was at Penn State the same time that he played. He had quite the diverse career in college and the pros, both as a player and coach.

He got to state college after I graduated, and with life after graduation I got busy, but I remembered the name from your from your thread.

I'm originally from the coal region in Pa, and I actually remember the first time I saw him play in a high school championship game. I don't remember the specific game, but I remember him not looking so big on the field, but he tore it up that night and had a great game.

I still remember dude busting on the scene out of nowhere with the Oilers. This back when HB's were a commodity and an 8th round pick become a 1,000 was pretty big

Reading that it was related to a tumor found on his pancreas. So unfortunate, since he survived a previous bout with cancer.

He and Zeke were tight. Always was smiling. RIP Coach.
Cancer really sucks. Lost my mom to colon cancer during her second bout and less than year after she was cleared. Came back with a vengeance 3 months later, and she was gone in 6 months.

A co worker had been going through it with his child who had it at 12. She beat it, but need frequent screenings. She just got to the point where the Dr's have said she doesnt need to be screened. I think she is 17 now. I can not being to imagine the anxiety for all involed

With Gary, I just hope he didnt suffer at the end

My sister got to know him and his family as his daughter played on my Nieces soccer team when he was with the Cowboys. Said he was a down to earth great guy. Very sad to hear.
