I for one am not thrilled at the prospect of drafting a WR in the 1st, BUT here is the latest grumblings from the draft news.

There is talk that 7, yes 7 will go in the first, if hypothetically the Cowboys are trying to get a good starter from this draft it will not be at 56. The few after those 7 would be gone at the top of the second, leaving guys like David Bell,Kahlil Shakir or Wan'dale Robinson or Calvin Austin III at 56.

So should they, if they were really serious about it, at least trade down a bit then take one in the first?

This team don’t do smokescreens. There is legit interest in guys like Olave and Burks. I think if Burks is sitting there still on the board at 24 folks here should be real nervous.
Taking Burks for us is like buying an Aston Martin db5 but having Morgan Freeman drive it.....

It all depends on who is there at 24. If the board is picked clean and WR is the clear best player, sure.

But honestly, taking another WR with a first round pick (3 first round picks used to acquire WRs int he last 4 years) would be pretty mind numbing.

Put me in the group that fears some quality OL being there but they are infatuated with Burks and take him instead.

I keep asking myself if Burks, Johnson, and Green are still on the board who do I honestly think they would take ? I keep coming back to Burks. We’ll see in a couple weeks.

I don't think we go WR in the first round.

I did an unlikely mock draft, taking Matt Corral in the 1st, just to see how it would play out.

And here's what I did.

  • 24
    Matt Corral
    QB, Ole Miss
  • 56
    Calvin Austin lll
    WR, Memphis
    88
  • Greg Dulcich
    TE, UCLA
  • 129
    Dare Rosenthal
    OT, Kentucky
  • 155
    Akayleb Evans
    CB, Missouri
  • 167
    Nate Landman
    LB, Colorado
  • 176
    Dee Winters
    LB, TCU
  • 178
    Micheal Clemons
    EDGE, Texas A&M
  • 193
    Luke Fortner
    IOL, Kentucky

    I almost drafted Jalen Tolbert.

In any case, this class is so loaded with WR talent that we could add two WRs to the roster who can start through round 5.

    It's very deep.

    Lots of defensive players, too.

I don't understand the idea of drafting a high WR.
Dallas has a 1st round WR in CD.
Dallas just signed their #2 WR in Gallup for three more years.
Dallas went and signed a FA to be a #3 or at least hold down the #2 till Gallup is back.

Dallas took a speed guy in Simi Fehoku last year.
Dallas has a wild card in TJ Vasher who may or may not be a stud red zone player.

Dallas sometimes only keeps 5 WR, and they have 5 I just listed.

Not saying Dallas won't draft one, but not sure where the big need is for a 1st round WR, or even top 3 rounds with the needs they have.

You are right.

There's plenty of WRs to go around this year.

Like, I won't be surprised if we wait and take our chances on two of them.. like rounds 3 and 5.

There is some sick talent in this class though.

Given that fact, I'd be inclined to use my early picks on defense.

I would draft a WR, though.. No doubt in my mind. You can draft two and be set for a long time at the position.

We lost a lot of talent last year.. Wilson, Cooper, etc.

We have our #1.

We need a legit #2 to compliment Lamb, Gallup, Washington.

And we need a pass catching TE.

There really are a bunch of guys that fit what we need.

Josh Johnson, Calvin Austin III, Jalen Tolbert, Kyle Phillips, Tyquan Thorton..

I can see them drafting Tolbert if Pitre is off the board in the 2nd.

You can plug him right in, and go.

I doubt that they draft Austin. he is 5ft. 6.

See who we bring in for a visit
That will give u a better idea where the team is headed in the draft.

Have done a thousand mock drafts and picking a receiver at 24 is almost always the worst choice. Really don't like the idea.

what rounds do you consider early ,.or is it just the 1st round only ?
rd 1. I can live with addressing wr in rd 2 if its a fit and value. I think we really need versatile slot wr. I like Dotson and Wandale Robinson. But I think we can grab WR later. He's a weapon on ST's as well. Skyy Moore is another guy we like. If we go this route, Ceedee better be what we think he was when we drafted him.
