I’ve been watching this team since around 1971, watching the SB that year is my earliest childhood memory. The Cowboys made the playoffs every one of the first 18 years of my life. Laundry personified the word professional, as did Tex Schramm, who gave this team the identity it has to this day. Now, a drunkard and his son (who aren’t out there evaluating every pro and college player) make draft day decisions even though they don’t know these players.
Since Jimmy’s stamp on this team faded, it seems like they’re trying to win by using super stars at the glamour positions of QB, WR, DE, and RB, instead of building the trenches first. They also seem to downplay the importance of excellence from the top down, and setting the team atmosphere from the HC down.
Since around 1999 it feels like so many non-serious people have had so many important positions, some for way longer than they should’ve been allowed to stay, and nepotism is one of the first signs of non-professionalism.
I have never felt worse about this team than I do now, what sucks is that it could very easily become way worse if an important player, like Tyron is injured after the draft. What would happen to the LB corps if Parsons gets hurt because a lack of good interior DL-men that can’t keep him clean?
This team was so lucky with injuries last year, and that luck never happens twice in a row. But our crypto kids will be out there selling the team like used car salesmen. And I’ll be there like always, hoping to buy.
