With the re-signing of key Jayvon Kearse, Malik Hooker and the team reportedly high on rookie safety Israel
Mukuamu and Donovan Wilson who maybe able to play both safety roles, does this mean
Damontae Kazee will not be returning, .?

or will Cowboys wait post-draft on a decision with Kazee? He's a Quinn guy who likely recruited him to Dallas. Familiar with the Quinn defense, but surprisingly he reportedly wasn't the signal caller for the defense.

- I also wonder about Brent Urban whose supposed to be a run stuffer, but suffered a torn pec.
Remains to be seen if we will add more DL guys to eventually replace Urban (injury settlement?)
Or are the Cowboys expecting him back to compete in the rotation ?

- With Osa, Gholston in the lineup, both who could be 4-3 and 3-4 hybrid types, i wonder what the
future holds Urban,

- As of now, I'm concerned about the scary thin LB unit, but we have to address that in the draft
and post draft. We only have off the ball LBs in LVE and Cox.

Kazee was not all that impressive last year. He was coming off a knee injury though, I believe. I would not complain though if they brought him back for TC competition. However, do not pass on drafting a S just to have a spot to bring him back.

I would like Urban to come back for sure. But if he did, it could be the same, as DT could be too crowded for TC. However he would provide TC depth, and roster depth. Especially if they move on from Trystan Hill. Which I would like to see him step up, but don't see him as a long term roster prospect. He would have to have a fantastic year to get a 2nd contract.

Maybe Urban wants too much to return or is looking for a contract longer than a year. From what I remember, Quinn wanted him back, as of January.

Outside of QB or having a HOF guy in the way no coach is really high on a guy who couldn't earn snaps his rookie year. They are settling on the hope that player can contribute something in year 2.

Kazee is limited veteran. If there is an injury a safety he would get the first call. Urban has always been injury prone. You can get these guys anywhere.

My guess is it all depends upon the draft at this point. Despite the lack of a top tier player (or even 2nd tier players) the DT spot has a ton of guys right now. Hill, Gallimore, OSA, Watkins, Bohanna. If they end up adding a draft pick to that there may not be a spot for Urban, unless he signs for vet minimum to compete for a spot in camp.

Same for Kazee. Coming off a not great year and the Cowboys already have Hooker/Kearse/Wilson plus a wildcard in Mukuamu. Might make more sense to use a 4th/5th round pick on a young S to compete in camp to round out the position than bringing in Kazee who costs more, expects to compete for a starting role, etc. Kazee despite a bad last couple of years should be able to get some snaps somewhere around the league, or at least be the next guy up for when someone goes down in preseason.

Both players will be replaced by cheaper options…likely 5th round draft picks.

Kazee was garbage. I was one of the most excited people on this board to sign him. But hell no on his return.

I think of a few big plays he missed they were easy plays. The Patriots play they blamed on Diggs that went for 6 and the Jackson TD on thanksgiving

On that Patriots play, Diggs let up because he knew Kazee was there. If Kazee wasn't there Diggs could have had another interception, IMO.

Yes, Kazee gave up on that play from the way it seemed. Maybe misjudgement on both parts, not sure. But that was Kazee's play to make.

i thought it was an Achilles Tendon injury Kazee was recovering from ? ...

Ditto with Keanu Neal and Malik Hooker...

Exactly. I played some safety in high school and college. I know that feeling of being in no-man's land. If you have a ballhawking corner, you fully expect him to make that play. Diggs thought the same thing about Kazee. It's one of the negatives of not knowing and trusting each other completely.

It was his achilles that is correct

I all for adding JAGS for minimum deals to give us some depth.
I am more concerned with our Oline and Linebacking corps at the present.
Hopefully both are addressed in the Draft,

I can see Urban returning before Kazee, for several reasons.

Funny how Quinns system was a hit but neither Kazee or Neal played all that well.

good point but
that may have had more to do with Parsons and Kearse being stellar

I thought Kazee was pretty bad last year. I think they can do better in the draft than Kazee.

If Urban wants a to come back I would give him a shot.
