Increasingly, as I play around with the mock drafts, I find that I have the choice of at least one of the top guards and Linberbaum.

My personal preference would be to trade down in that scenario, but if a good deal does not present itself, which strategy do you prefer?

Draft Linderbaum and then sign one of the best remaining FA guards, such as Daryl Williams or Trai Turner, or draft one of the two top guards and ride with Biadasz?

I understand that we could address whatever position we don't address in the first in a later round, but I am assuming with all of our needs at different positions that we would be unlikely to go IOL with two of our top picks. What do you say?

I'm probably going Linderbuam and signing a vet LG. I'd rather plug the center position with a top player. Besides, it's not that hard to find a decent guard

I know this is unpopular, but I would allow McGovern to compete to become our starting Center.

I worry that Linderbaum will have similar anchor issues as does Biaz.

You're not the first I've heard/read the same concern......but isn't his weight similar to Fredbeard. In other words, perhaps he's more of a technical player.

None of the guards that are in FA right now are any better than what we currently have. Signing a guard in FA for anything else than a backup role, would be a huge mistake. I'd rather draft a guard and center in the draft, which could be done. Linderbaum as our center is what I prefer.

 I don't know about that (LOL). McGovern has had TWO different coaching staff sour on him. They damn near begged him to show enough to bench Williams. In other words, as now they're saying his ceiling is back-up, nothing more.

Frederick was around 312-315 during the combine and workouts. Linderbaum seems to be around the 290 threshold.

I think the difference is, Linderbaum is 3 inches taller then Fredbeard was. That is why Frederick to me appeared much more stockier than Linderbaum ... the extra 20 pounds and 3 inches shorter.

McGovern is pretty much all we have.......I'm 100% confident we can find an upgrade over him via free agency OR trade ( low round pick).

Zion is going to become a better OC than Linderbaum. He is a Travis Frederick clone. Off the charts intelligence. Perfect build for OC. There is zero question about his anchor. He is the only OL that could block Travis Jones at the Senior Bowl practices.

More Zion love on this board!

Maybe so, but he did play the position on the college level and his issues are more on the mental side, then lack of strength.

What do you think of Broaddus idea to trade up with Carolina and draft one the offensive tackles. I think Broaddus was saying take Sauce Gardener but we both know if the Cowboys went up that far it will be for one of the linemen. I think Neal would be a great left guard before he transitions to left tackle. I think the trade would be for a 1st, 2nd and two 5ths.

Two Words...Shotgun Snaps.

He can't do it. He played about a dozen snaps at OC last season and the QB was under center for ALL of them. The Cowboys rarely ever run back to back plays from under center and definitely not several consecutively.

In college he used a reverse grip on the ball when he played OC. Basically with his hand under the ball. That actually works well for under center snaps; however, for shotgun it is equivalent to an underhand 'granny shot' in basketball. No possibility of a spiral. The shotgun snaps just floated back to the QB.

For the Cowboys, he did snap with a conventional grip, but he didn't do shotgun snaps in the regular season.

Matt Farniok looked good in the limited snaps he played during the regular season at both OC and OG.
- He has the size (6-5, 311 when drafted), good arm length for an interior OL (33-1/4") and his 3-cone, SS, vert and bench were all very good.

Frederick lost weight for the combine. He played at over 330 in college.

Trai Turner is better than McGovern. He is 28 and was a Pro Bowl player for 5 consecutive years (last one in 2019).
- He played all 16 games plus the Steelers 1 playoff game last season.
- He was injured in 2020 and missed 7 games. He didn't look as good after the injury as previously, but even at 80% he is better than McGovern.
