Linderbaum/Williams(Turner) or Green (Johnson)/Biadasz?

What do you think of Broaddus idea to trade up with Carolina and draft one the offensive tackles. I think Broaddus was saying take Sauce Gardener but we both know if the Cowboys went up that far it will be for one of the linemen. I think Neal would be a great left guard before he transitions to left tackle. I think the trade would be for a 1st, 2nd and two 5ths.
Broaddus is an idiot. Literally the dumbest person in local DFW sport media.

It would take this year's 1st and next year's 1st and 2nd to trade up for Neal.

Zion has terrific physical ability to play OG or OC and is the most intelligent player in this draft (Travis Frederick type intelligence).

Tyler Smith is the most physically talented OLineman in this draft. He is the closest OL physically to Larry Allen that I've seen since Larry Allen himself.
- He is just completely raw with no real technique which is exactly the description of LA when he was in the draft.
- He played at a small college and his his OL coach was very young and inexperienced.
- He has a overwhelming desire to dominate defenders physically.
- His biggest issue was penalties, most of which came because he insisted on pancaking defenders and then land on top of them.
- College football tended to allow that in the past but in the past couple of years they started calling more like the NFL.
- In the NFL, pancake blocks were legal in the nineties, but now get penalized if the OL ends up falling on top of the defender.

Increasingly, as I play around with the mock drafts, I find that I have the choice of at least one of the top guards and Linberbaum.

My personal preference would be to trade down in that scenario, but if a good deal does not present itself, which strategy do you prefer?

Draft Linderbaum and then sign one of the best remaining FA guards, such as Daryl Williams or Trai Turner, or draft one of the two top guards and ride with Biadasz?

I understand that we could address whatever position we don't address in the first in a later round, but I am assuming with all of our needs at different positions that we would be unlikely to go IOL with two of our top picks. What do you say?

I love Lindenbaum but I don’t think the Cowboys do because he’s not a 30 visit. That may be smoke and they may feel like they don’t need him to visit Dallas because Philbin used to be OL coach at Iowa. Maybe they’d like the OG early and want to get a center like Jergens, Fortner or another later. Or maybe they want to roll with what they have in Biadasz and Farniok which concerns me.

Two Words...Shotgun Snaps.

He can't do it. He played about a dozen snaps at OC last season and the QB was under center for ALL of them. The Cowboys rarely ever run back to back plays from under center and definitely not several consecutively.

In college he used a reverse grip on the ball when he played OC. Basically with his hand under the ball. That actually works well for under center snaps; however, for shotgun it is equivalent to an underhand 'granny shot' in basketball. No possibility of a spiral. The shotgun snaps just floated back to the QB.

For the Cowboys, he did snap with a conventional grip, but he didn't do shotgun snaps in the regular season.

Matt Farniok looked good in the limited snaps he played during the regular season at both OC and OG.
- He has the size (6-5, 311 when drafted), good arm length for an interior OL (33-1/4") and his 3-cone, SS, vert and bench were all very good.
If he cannot snap, he cannot play the position. So basically McGovern looks like a backup guard.

I would like to add more competition to the position, to go with Biaz and Farniok.

That's a huge price to pay, when we have needs across the board. Don't like any prospect enough in this year's class to make such a bold trade up for. Now, if we are doing that in rd 2, more willing.

I worry that Linderbaum will have similar anchor issues as does Biaz.

Give me Kenyon Green. Guy is nasty. Look for a vet C to give Biadasz competition. Plus Green was able to play every position on the OLine except C against SEC competition.

I rather trade up for Tyler Smith if he is there in rd 2. Put Zion/Smith inside and our run game vastly improves.

I'm fine with either him or Zion. Might depend on who is still on their board.

Exactly. I have Green as my first option and Zion as my next option. We need to fix the OLine badly. If the right guys are there I may double down on OLine in the first 3 rounds. Unless some of these guys are showing something we haven't seen we currently need a starting LG, possibly a starting C, and a swing tackle.

He was never overmatched in college going against bigger stronger DTs. Him getting outmatched in the NFL is greatly overexagerated.

I am hearing he is expected to fall to rd 2, so it's several teams who have real questions about him.

Ill take the best guard and Biadasz. Biadasz could still turn out to be a very good center.

Trai Turner is better than McGovern. He is 28 and was a Pro Bowl player for 5 consecutive years (last one in 2019).
- He played all 16 games plus the Steelers 1 playoff game last season.
- He was injured in 2020 and missed 7 games. He didn't look as good after the injury as previously, but even at 80% he is better than McGovern.

wow you really must think McGovern sucks. I dont think I have ever heard you badmouth a Cowboys Olineman.

I have been looking at the guard position trying to wrap my mind around taking one with the first round pick. I like Green and Zion but I have also looked at Smith and other 2nd round prospects. I really don’t see much difference. I would not be surprised if the kid from Tennessee-Chattanooga is eventually the best guard in the draft. If the Cowboys draft Zion/Green, it better be a trade down. We need as many picks in the 2nd/3rd rounds. I would be in favor of trading out of the first round for two 2nds. I think there are only 15 first round grades in this draft.

Both Green/Zion are clearly the top tier and are plug and play impact starters day 1. The rest of the class, is ranked all over the map. Kinnard, Rhyan, Salyer all need to make a positional change. Ed Ingram lacks the physical traits and has off the field concerns. Many think we will have a choice of both Green/Zion, but I believe 1 will be off the board at 24.

1 Linderbaum
2 Green
3 Johnson

Case one
Linderbaum
Cole Strange

Linderbaum will make whoever plays LG better.

Case Two if Linderbaum is gone at 24
Grenn
Luke Fortner

Fortner can also play guard

Case Three Linderbaum and Green are gone Johnson and Smith are there.
Trade back, add a pick, and take Johnson or Smith in that order

I don’t know man Kiper and McShay have Green/Zion low, second round picks in their mock drafts. The only person who is really high on Green is Voch. Dane through a big hint out on Plug and play that we should not be surprised if the Cowboys pick Raimann when Cavanaugh traded down in their mock draft. Broaddus does not think much of either Green/Zion as he has then both graded a pure second round prospect. Look at NFL.com the draft grades of the guards are real close. The draft nicks that like Zion rave about his intelligence not his football abilities.
