Murphy's Law states that what can go wrong will go wrong. I think this applies to the Cowboys offseason and the 1st round tonight. The Cowboys had a weak division and dominated last year. Rather than take advantage of this and clean up weaknesses to make the draft easier in free agency, they sat on their hands and did next to nothing outside signing James Washington and Dante Fowler. This is despite having needs at OT, OG, DE, and positions the FO hardly ever addresses in 1T DT and S. Not to worry. There's always the draft right? Well, the rest of the division loaded up in round one while we only had 1. Then they got very solid players. Meanwhile, the Texans get Green and the Chargers get Zion Johnson. This leads to us taking a player in Tyler Smith who committed 16 penalties last year. Still plenty of picks to go, but I have a bad feeling about this season.

Yup. Not exactly a blue chip conference he's from, either.

8 more draft selections to go, and more FA out there a,so.

However, I don’t have 100% confidence in them at this time.

Just let it all play out and see what happens. And remember what is on paper so not what will be on the field. Good and bad for all teams.

No one has done anything note worthy without taking a chance. Tyler Smith is raw but putting him at LG will give him time to develope. Let's just hope he turns out to be everything they dreamed of when they drafted him.

Really his biggest problem when pass blocking is him placing his hands below his waist. If the coaching staff was smart they tell him to keep his hands close to his chest. Or force him to take boxing lessons.

I'd love to be optimistic about this year, but this feels like a 9 and 8 year at best. This reminds me of an LVE/ Taco Charleton kind of draft more than a CeeDee or Micah Parsons kind of draft. LVE was better than expected for a year, but quickly devolved from there. We took a raw project player who commits a ton of penalties when we let go of a player because they commit a ton of penalties... and we replaced some of our better talent with project players in free agency.

I'm not going to worry about it. I'll give this kid a chance. Do I have high hopes for the season? Not really. But I'm not going to come down hard on this kid because he was selected. It's not like he made the choice.

Relax the Jones boys have this football thing figured out.

We are watching the FO make compound mistakes. And it’s ugly.

1. They undermined MM and he is now effectively neutered as a HC
2. They decided status quo was the way to go with the coaching staff
3. They cut salary and failed to add any upgrades to the roster
4. They refused to touch the OL in FA telegraphing a OL selection at 24… and other teams ran circles around them
5. They painted themselves into a corner and had to reach for a raw, development player— who does have upside and talent— but also got flagged 16 times last year

Flat out poorly run FO. And don’t forget about the Jones family scandals, Kelvin Joseph’s train wreck , Dalrymple’s indiscretions, and Dak’s applauding fans for throwing bottles at refs. It’s been awesome! Cowboys!

All the "wait until the draft before you judge the offseason" pom pom wavers are about to switch to "you can't judge these guys until after 3 years".

A lot of bad football minds here.

Everyone thought Travis Frederick was a 3rd round center who Dallas drafted at the bottom of the 1st after trading back. There was pain galore and gnashing of teeth. Frederick turned out to be an all pro who would have
made hall of fame if he hadn't had health issues.
