Cowboys Vs NFL 1st Round Pick Draft Success

I was listening to "Analyzing the Pick" on DC.com. Nick Eatman had an interesting stat that I would love the "Cowboys don't know anything about Football" guys to attempt to explain.

Last 5 years, there have been 160 first-round picks. 21 of them have made the pro bowl for around a 20% pro bowl rate.

The Cowboys, over the last 20 years have had 19 first-round picks and 14 of them have made the pro bowl for a 70% pro bowl rate.

I thought this was a very interesting stat and one that really underscores the success the Cowboys have had thru the draft.

Its funny cuz when u go over the list so many are overrated players. Some had one good year werent staple players and some werent even good enuf for a 2nd long term contract

It's easy to explain. Playoff success is what differentiates NFL teams. Everything else is just a rationalization for not having playoff success.

Ok then go run the numbers for all Pro. I am willing to bet you'll see the same results. The cowboys problem hasn't been Drafting. It's been coaching, team management, FA, and injuries. Drafting is the least of our problems. Do they do some dumb stuff every so often, sure. But the reason we haven't had success is because of so much more then drafting. Which is even worse lol

Coaching and culture. The rosters have been good but not elite enough to overcome subpar coaching and a soft culture.

Dallas does VERY well in the first round

its just the issue of taking a project in the 2nd round that needs to be fixed

2nd round is for STARTERS......this isnt where you take projects you take players who can contribute right away

Just give up on them winning a SB. Just look at it as if it was one of your favorite TV shows. You tune in because you know the characters and it's highly entertaining.

I feel Jerry is good at drafting. Maybe even great at drafting. It's the overall team building is what he lacks. He can draft individual great players but doesn't seem to have a long term vision of what the identity of the team is. Are we a pound it out running team, are we a arial assault team or are we a defensive team. We don't have a clear identity and no direction which is why I feel we have wasted the careers of the really good to great players that Jerry has drafted. IMO.
