I'm going to photograph myself once a week to track my fitness progress. I could use my old Canon S3 digital camera, but that thing came out in about 2004 I think, and my Samsung Note 9 takes way better quality pictures.

With the S3, there's a thing that screws into the bottom of the camera, allowing you to mount it onto the tripod. There must be something similar that will mount a cell phone to a tripod, right? And something like a Note 9 will have a delayed picture feature to allow you to set it and run into the picture, right?

I haven't gotten as into cell phones as some people, but I'd bet something like this exists, right?

My thought is if I know I'm getting photographed every Sunday, I've have a high incentive to do my workouts and to say no to those chocolate milk shakes at Bronco Burger. I could still use the old digital camera.

It would not work for me. I cant use it because of the tape covering my camera

Perhaps something like this?

It even comes with a remote ..

I was thinking of something that attaches to my existing tripod, but this would work too, and it costs about what I was expecting for the other type of device. This will do nicely. Thank you.
You could just get a car cell phone holder with a clamp on the end of a flexible tube. They're pretty cheap, and you can just clamp it on your tripod.

I have a small UBeesize tripod. Works very much like the one Reality linked. Doesn't extend but has adjustable legs. Works well for what I need it for and the remote comes in handy. Had to replace the battery once and probably needs it again. Maybe because I buy cheap generic batteries on amazon.

I bought something like this off Amazon for about $15. It has spring loaded clamps to hold the my iPhone in place. It will definitely work for photography or video recording. I use it with a golf swing analyzer app. Works great. It is not the most durable piece of equipment I ever owned but if you want to spend more you can find better ones on Amazon.
