Trevon Diggs is the Most Underrated Cowboy, Possibly Ever

11 INTs hasn't been done in decades, though, by any player for any team.

Yet, still, not in the conversation as much because he plays corner, the INTs are rare (so expectations of an 11 INT repeat are low), and Micah Parsons overshadows his limelight.

Still, though, I'll take both of them. They both make each other better. Trevon helps Parsons be more successful, and vice versa, and a lot of people don't mention Diggs when talking about great players on the Cowboys defense right now. He's also a good teammate, team player.

So, he's been very underrated by fans. That's all I'm saying.

Also, the term was "possibly." I'm saying an argument can be made.

He doesn't play two positions very well. But that's not necessary for him to be great at his position.

Our fans were ruined by Deion's flashy runbacks. Cornerbacks around here haven't gotten much love since him. Then again, Deion never got 11.

Diggs' talent can help you win a SB. Not a player who just holds it down well enough to come along for the ride. He has that level of talent. Parsons and Diggs both do.
I'm with you in believing TD is a fantastic player. Fans read a narrative and run with it. If Diggs continues last years level of success (I don't think he's come close to his ceiling), he'll go down as one of the great ones. Just give it time and let his career play out.

Same for Parsons.

Are we still waiting to see how his career pans out before we call him great?
I like saying, “The early returns are great. Let’s see if he can be consistent.” Btw I think Parsons and Diggs will be great. But for me, the tag of “greatness” has to be earned in more than two seasons. Parsons especially has all the signs of greatness.

So many fans think the yards he gave up degrades his value. But how may teams would be willing to give up a few hundred yards to acquire 11 interceptions?

I can't understand all the hate Diggs gets over his style of play. It's like fans don't understand that you have to take chances to get INTs.

To get 11, a player has to make the right gambles. And Diggs does that.

Totally underrated player.
Don't think so.
He got a lot of publicity for the interceptions.
I think most here appreciate him.
I do.

I do.

Many here do appreciate him, some under-appreciate him, and a few bag on his style of play. He also gets trolled quite a bit on social media.

My main point is that he's not in the conversation nearly as much as Parsons when talking about the Cowboys defense. But he's had almost as good of a start to his career.

I think part of this comes from Micah running a 4.3 at 245 and playing two positions. It truly is something we haven't seen much of before.

Then again, same for a player who gets 11 INTs. One could argue he had as good of a year as Parsons, even if he did only play one position.

In the NFL most games are lost not won. To that end it is better to be able to consistently shut down a player versus either getting an INT or giving up a TD. It is better in todays NFL to not lose the game going for the high risk high reward play which is an approach that has followed on both offense and defense and is why INTs are drastically down across the NFL.

You guys aren't getting the "underrated" part here.

I'm saying at this point in his career, that during his career, after playing so well, that that's what makes him one of the most underrated.

Mostly because people are still wondering if he's going to be great. So far it looks that way.

Maybe the title should have been "Trevon Diggs Possibly Most Underrated Player on Dallas Cowboys."

I think he's certainly the most underrated, underappreciated player on the Cowboys right now. Mostly because he was also in the conversation for DPOY award, and things like that. Some even mentioned him as an MVP candidate

Yet, we all want to just wait and see. I'm personally glad to have him going into next year.

That's because teams don't have CBs who can take the ball away 11 times during a season, hadn't happened in 40 years, So it doesn't make sense for them to take the same risk Diggs is capable of taking.

With Diggs, it often makes sense for him to take that gamble, because he can walk the walk. This is another part that makes him underrated.

Let the self-loathing-fans self loathe. It’s their thing and makes them happy in some weird way that only a therapy session could figure out.

I give them credit. Where whining is usually frowned upon, on the internet it actually adds that entertainment factor we all like.

People have absolutely zero clue how to evaluate T. Diggs. People that bag on him have no idea and a lot of the people who defend him don’t even defend him the right way. Similarly to the OP.

the bottom line is Diggs is damn good. Yes, he is.

Can he AT LEAST have back to back good years before we act like he's the most underrated/overrated anything ever?

He's had 1 good year.

He's neither overrated or underrated.

Exactly this.
Also, the OP suggesting that those who point out his shortcomings as 'hate' is an exaggeration too.

That's the go to for some posters.

If your opinions don't match their own you're a "hater". It's a very elementary way of looking at things.

I think crowning a young guy after 1 good season or writing a young guy off after 1 bad season is incredible foolish.

If they're good or bad after 3 years then you have a better idea of what you have.

Every player is dutifully assessed on the basis of what he's done in any given year. Diggs is a young player who has demonstrated significant development in both seasons that he's played. He's had an excellent work ethic. There's no justifiable reasons to doubt it now. I don't anticipate that he'd be likely to disappoint his team in the season yet to come. He'll be judged within the season to come on its own merits.
