Why football over baseball?

I think you are not a baseball fan!!!!

Think of it this way. Any sport you are not a fan of is going to be boring to you. You don't see the action in baseball because you don't care for the sport.

Baseball certainly can be entertaining. I used to be a fan. Lost my interest of being fully invested with the 94 strike. I do find it tedious at times. Too many games and other things that draw out games longer than they need to be. Also, do the Mets and Yankees have to play every year? It took far too long fro MLB to introduce inter-league play and then when they do, they still screw it up in my opinion. They seemingly only cared about the subway series and everything else didn't matter. Inter-league play began in 1997, but the Yankees didn't visit Wrigley Field until 2003.

Football offers a much quicker path to a big payday. Unless you're a freak of nature like harper, trout, Betts, ohtani, etc. Toiling away in the minors for pennies seems awful. The pay is a fraction of what even practice squad guys make.

I can agree with that. Of course if you are toiling away in the minors it is probably a good indicator you aren't good enough for the majors anyway. NFL players who are not good enough just get cut and don't have a minor league system to work to hone their skills. They just have to go into a different profession. There are definite pros and cons of both sports for average players or players on the fringe.. Those pros and cons also vary depending on what level of play you are able to attain. if you are good enough to make it to the highest level of play and earn a top contract, the amount of pay and the guarantees of MLB are hard to beat by the NFL, for now. It really all depends on what someone loves.

Dave Winfield got drafted by teams in the NFL, MLB, NBA & ABA.

I'm not sure Chad Hutchinson, Drew Henson, Chris Weinke and also Brandon Weeden were good enough to be quality NFL starters even if they had taken a traditional route to the NFL. Any chance they did have was thwarted by trying out baseball first. Any year lost in development is crucial, especially those younger years. You really can't make up lost time. Roger Staubach lost development time due to his Naval commitment, but he is freaking Roger Staubach. I do think he could have been even better than what he was had he began playing in the NFL directly after college, obviously depending on which team he landed with if circumstances changed. It is a difficult challenge to be good at one sport at a high level. It also takes a certain level of arrogance(both good and bad) to think that because you failed at one sport you can just fall back to the NFL.

My grandfather grew up with Mickey Mantle in Tulsa and later lived across the street from him in Mesquite, Tx.
He also pitched and threw out his arm in a Yankees camp before pitching semi-pro after recovery....
My first words were "Bibby pitch"....

SO I am not a typical hater here but do find baseball boring compared to any modern sport.
Recent changes where guys are valued for hitting .240 but hitting home runs make it worse imo.

--I am also biased in opposite direction because I have a stigmatism and could never hit the ball! And the Rangers ownership is absolute basura and drove that team into the abyss.

All this is to say that my sport order goes:
NFL, college football, NBA, European soccer, college basketball, high school football, college softball, MLB.

You are wrong about my baseball fandom. Love to play it, and I appreciate the strategy of the game. And being a catcher, might be the roughest position to play in team sports.

Baseball's problem is that the strategy which evolved over the past quarter century has made the game more and more boring, as opposed to football where the game over the past quarter century has gotten more and more exciting. The analytics-based approach to baseball is good strategy but also boring as hell.

Having said that, if I had equal talent between football and baseball and could choose a professional career in just one of those sports, I'd go with baseball all day every day. More money, longer career, less wear and tear, and better post-career life.

Since you don't understand the action in the game, no, I'm not wrong. Every pitch is action.

Talking about Wilson, Murray, Drew Henson lol.
I get it they loved football more. But you could play second base and make a killing and not get killed. Just a scotch in....
You actually have to be good enough to make the major leagues, let alone have alone have a long career.
Plus they were QBs, not linebackers

I do understand that every pitch is an action. It’s part of the chess game on the field. You can get off your high horse now.

Murray is set to make $46.1 million in average annual salary under his extension. The A's, who own Murray’s rights, opening day payroll FOR THE ENTIRE TEAM this season was $47.7 million.

Drew Henson failed at baseball and then went back to football

Wilson would have had to grind through the minors and was described as someone who had a shot to play in the majors, so his best chance to make money in the next few years was as a QB not a 2B

Murray is the only guy who was a top prospect in both, and his career earnings in the NFL are around $36.5 million dollars.

That’s more than the top four picks from his same draft *combined*

I don't understand your reactions then. Seriously asking how it's possible to think as you do in this matter. I truthfully don't understand.

Much harder to make the majors than than to play in the NFL. Football for those guys is pretty much sure millions. I don't blame them.

A lot of guys who are really good at baseball never make it out of the minors. I believe 60% of first round MLB picks never make the show. That's a high fail rate.
Hitting the curve ball is prolly harder than anything you have to do in football. Many are never able to.

Ultimately it’s because they are better at football than baseball with a greater opportunity to make more money at the sport they are better at.

Most baseball players go to the Farm system first and have to work their way up to the Majors.

I know football has its share of them but watching baseball games (my wife's a big fan, I'm no dummy, lol) I'm just struck by how silly it is.

Like batters standing there, a ball is thrown, and they don't even swing, but they step out of the batter's box and re-strap the wrist bands. Like they got loose by just standing there, lol. Or when a pitching change is to be made, we all sit there while the manager walks (slowly) out to the mound to take the ball from the pitcher and wait while the new pitcher walks (slowly again) from the bull pen. Then, despite how long the new pitcher has been throwing in the bullpen, he has to throw MORE pitches, geez, how cold can he get walking for 20 seconds? Geez, just signal the pitcher to put the ball on the mound and come back to the dugout.

Most especially the managers wearing uniforms, when they never play.

There's more, but you get my point...

No, not necessarily better, it's simply that w/ the right skillset, football is a more sure millionaire maker.

Yeah, it's like waiting for 5 minutes between plays for 7 seconds of action!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
