Twighlight of his career? He's missed 19 games in the last two seasons. It's very possible we may never see Smith play again or at least in a Dallas uniform. What are you smoking

The same thing you were smoking when you believed that Tyron Smith at LG would make him less prone to injury. His injury risk was likely the same, so why not leave him at his better position, which is LT. Especially when you were suggesting a true raw rookie should be starting at LT over him.

I suggested the best move for the oline would be to move Tyron Smith to LG and have Tyler Smith compete and learn LT. That way the best 5 were on the line and injury riddled

Everyone hated that idea and insulted me.

And look where we are now.
So, after Dallas drafted Tyler Smith, and declared him the left tackle of the future...YOU figured it out? So let me get this straight.. You figured out how to get the left tackle of the future to play left tackle? How'd you do that?

It was made clear when they drafted him that they planned him as the LG not LT

His injury risk would probably be even more

I would hate the idea of Tyron playing left guard when his ham string is torn from the bone.

The idea was from months ago. And had it been implemented, Tyler Smith would be much better prepared as the game 1 starting LT.l since he had all of camp and preason to get important reps in rather than throwing him out there 2 weeks before the season opener.

You're confused. We hated and ridiculed you because you created a thread regarding how "injury free" our camp had been.

We knew right then and there the jinx was in full effect. Basically, you screwed us buddy.

Now you want credit for what you've done?

The idea was to kick Tyron inside where the hope was that position would help him stay more healthy. If he got injured then replacing him at LG would be easier.

Kicking Tyler outside to LT early on camp would allow him to learn the position and better prepare him thus solidifying the most important position on the Oline.

Most of the Zoners knew it was only a matter of time before Tyron is injured and so were hoping that we bring in a guy who eventually replace him , but no one thought he will go down so early. ( He went down trying to pull on a run play ) so I dont know how much of it because he played Tackle or if Guard position would have saved from injury, Isnt guards do need to-be in frequent pull on the run plays?

The FO if as they claim Tyler is eventual replacement , should have practiced him in LT mostly with a little bit of guard thrown in and be backup to Tyron. But they were greedy , they thought to fill in LG position using Tyler’s strength now (hoping Tyron will play most of the games ) Which backfired .

Now they have to bring in a quality tackle to play the LT position and hope Tyler improves tremendously and will take over at some point. But this has opened up LG position, we all saw Mcgovern is not the answer last year, may be they should throw Farniok on fire and see how he responds.

Don't take it the wrong way but I still don;t like the thought of playing Tyron at LG and Tyler Smith at LT. If Tyron was healthy, he should be the left tackle.

Hate these “beat my chest look at me” threads.
Especially ones with stupid ideas that would not have solved anything. Tyron would not be a good G. He is lean and very tall and would not get good leverage. We would still be in the same position except Tyler Smith would have some experience at T.

McGovern is a weak spot at G and we don't know what Tyler is at T yet.

So they drafted a left tackle and you came up with that brilliant idea of putting him at left tackle. And now you want credit for that? Really?

In the press conference after the draft Stephen Jones specifically said, Tyler will compete at left guard, but they see him as Tyron Smith replacement eventually. Now if that isn't saying he's the left tackle of the future then I don't know what is?

I think the problem here is moving Tyron to LG. Hard to tell a perennial all-star LT to move to LG to help train someone. You would get the same response as when Favre was asked to train Rodgers. These players are here to play not coach.
I also dont think Tyron has ever played guard. who says he would agree to switch.

other prob I see is Tyler only played T for 1 day in OTA before they moved him. He also still hadnt beat McGovern for guard on depth chart. I think he may need more work than is coming out

I'm not saying the idea isn't a good one. Just that it has no basis in reality. If my car breaks down a few miles from work, it would be a good idea to go the rest of the way on Elkback, but it's not going to happen.

You don't tell a dozen year vet, 8 time pro bowler, 2 time first team all pro, this rookie is taking your spot, and that he's moving inside for his own good. Not unless he sucks. When healthy he does not suck. This was never an option.

Tyler Smith played LT 3 seasons in college. But according to the OP he still needs to learn the position.

Tyler is no Elkback. He was a 1st round draft pick.

And that mentality of not finding a replacement for a player because he's good when healthy is exact mentality that the Jones have. The fact that Which is exactly why the team is in this situation. Poor planning.

Tyron has missed 19 games in the last 2 seasons alone. Moving him inside so that the future could have the opportunity to take over makes total sense to me.
