The whole mishandling of the QB conract haunts this team now and going forward. If they were to trust their first thought which was this guy is a mirage and don't pay him, things would look a lot different. The moral of the story being: bus drivers are OK as long as it is on a rookie deal.

Well, this franchise has 25 million in dead cap space.
That is good? Really?

Sure been watching one since 2016. Your un dieing love knows no bounds. Why don't you let the board know just how many number 4 jerseys hanging in the closet, be honest.so you don’t know what a bus driver is?

More importantly Stevie talking about his 5 year cap plan points to nothing changing when Jerry goes to the big owners box in the sky. They will roll it over to next year.
Everything points to a new HC.

According to Broaddus, the Cowboys had doubts about Prescott. You can tell they had issues when they offered him a deal similar to what Tanihill got from the Titans. The problem is it is hard to evaluate quarterbacks. Mahomes went 10th, Rodgers went 23, and Herbert dropped to the 6th pick, Baker went 1st in the same draft as Allen and Jackson. It’s tough to evaluate these guys. Once you think you have one you do everything you can to keep him.Its just so so much more complicated than that.
They had a locker room that got behind this guy 100%...to the extent they never put their starter back in(Tony Romo). You can argue to never let the layman steer the ship as much as you like. Dak looked serviceable as a QB, was a leader, doesnt turn ball over much and QB'd some very potent offenses leading up to his contract.
The QB market rates are insane. Unfortunately in a team sport at the most important position...I think a lot of teams are forced to pay what looks like a serviceable QB because they dont want to waste the primes of other players(think Martin and Tyrom Smith) looking for another QB when they are hard to find(think the 14 QB's between Aikman and Romo that could hardly complete a pass).
But yes...youre right. Dak probably has some serious flaws the casual doesnt know about or cant distinguish through the tv. Hes probably overpaid a bit. But do you waste other players primes in exchange for hope?

I would just draft a quarterback every year. Unless you have an elite prospect you should let your starter play out his contract. Dak is Mr. intangibles. There is not one thing he does on the football field that is elite. He is average across the board.I have post history that proves Ive been suggesting someone in the building didnt want to pay Dak top QB money.
Why? Because Jerry overpays his players. Why would he hesitate to pay Dak...leading to a 2 year negotiation during exploding QB rates? I dont think its because its the most significant contract for each team and Jerry was just being careful with this one contract.
I agree that it seems like there were doubts about Dak getting a big contract. I speculate it was Stephen not wanting to pay him...but its total specualtion.
But...Dak won out with his leverage. This upset the Jones'. Now they are making Dak prove his worth. I speculate Moore was told to put Dak in "prove it" situations all game which is why he abandoned the run early in a game that was never more than a 2 possession game.
Only thing good about this is...if Dak doesnt pass the test this year when he comes back...Dallas has their answer on if Dak gets another contract. I suspect Stephen is ready to move on.

Unfortunately that's not a good argument, our dead cap is like dead center in the NFL. Not horrible
