It’s pretty clear Brown is a weak link. Joseph is not reliable or showing much quality. Mazi is the DT1 that is on the #2 run defense in college and his traits translate well. Making this D great for the next 3 years gives the best chance at a Super Bowl run and getting past the 49ers. Skinner will replace Hooker who will doubt get paid in FA after next year. Just too great a prospect to pass.

I guess your assumption is that he won't make a difference.

Gonzalez is 6'2 at 201 with a 4.3 forty. 3 interceptions. He's likely gone by the cowboys pick in the end, but I would say he won't get topped like Brown for huge gains with his height and speed. The amount
of pressure Dallas creates makes a good corner great but won't help on 50/50 balls.
Brown's weakness despite being a very good corner is against the 6'3-6'4 WRs like we've seen at Denver, Packers and Giants.

Smith's size and athleticism will shoot him up draft boards. He will probably be a day 1 pick

Smith is going to test extremely well. He’s a big athletic guy with a ton of upside. I think he’s probably a 1st rounder. Gonzalez and Smith would be a home run if we could pull it off.

So rare, in fact, it’s hard to find the right superlative to begin with. But let’s start with this: Smith does 22 reps on the bench press, but that’s with 325 (not 225). He close-grip benched 550 pounds. He vertical-jumps 33 inches. He broad-jumped 9-4 1/2. Smith, who had 37 tackles last season, has clocked a 4.41 shuttle time, which would’ve tied the best by any defensive tackle at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine, and it would’ve been better than any defensive tackle weighing 310 pounds or more in the past decade. I have no desire to use a 2nd round pick on a NT to eat up blocks. Mazi hasn’t shown any ability to be a difference maker as a penetrator/disruptive IDL at the college level. His production is paltry even by NT standards.

The sack numbers aren't there, but Smith has a good amount of tackles for a DT. I love building the trenches so I wouldn't hate move, besides the Smith Boys on the roster are super strong and dog out opponents, so Mazi would fit right in.
